Download the free-trial client and run it. It will walk you through everything you need to do. You didn't actually have to go and create a new SE account.
SE account - like your bank account.
'service account' - within your bank account, you can have a checking account, savings account, stocks/etc. To play the game, you need to add a 'service account' into your SE account by registering a game code / CD-key.
http://www.ffxiv-freetrial.com/
or from Steam (North America)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/312060/ (click on Install Demo) -> Not too sure if you did this already since it's in your library. From your post, it can be assumed you installed the demo, but skipped the SE account creation process/etc.
Hmm.. I might've. Playing the demo lead me straight to the launcher. From there I went directly to SE website to sign up since I saw nothing on the launcher itself o.o weird.
If the trial option doesn't pop up immediately after launching, go to documents/my games/ and delete the "Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn" folder. Re-launch the launcher and it should pop up with trial options.
or is this seperate again?
- because i couldn't use any trial on my existing beta account - what's realy annoying -
THIS WORKS!!!!
This works :)
Well, I installed the demo > started it > tried to create a ff 14 service account ... here it fails for the following reason:
one step is to log in with your general SE-account, which however doesnt work because it wants some kind of "one-time password". Ofc i dont have any means to create it since you have to buy the final/full version to do so (it seems).
So, how do I get past this ? Again ... deleting the said folder doesnt work. The SE account is valid so that is NOT the problem ... i mean it works on their HP and all ...
Regards
You don't have one therefore you leave it blank.
Ofc here I thought it was a problem on my end, so i verfied that everything (ID + PW) is correct by logging into my account on their HP.
Just tried that with the version from square's HP to make sure its nothing steam-related, but it still creates the same problem.
EDIT ... found the problem. I didnt expect that i need a Square-Enix Account for an Square-Enix Account in order to register a FF14 Trail-account ... must have skipped that info somewhere ;) ... most likely because having ONE account, where you add certain game specific accounts, is usually enough.
Regards
The Launcher (steam trial) works perfectly now.
Nor can you convert an old paid account to F2P it would seem.I only got to level 20 in the 1st month & would like to try some more classes, which will take me a loooong time & I'm not paying until I'm sure of the class I prefer & that I really, *really* want to sub longer term. But, it would seem VIP accounts get shafted with new offers, like most other mmo, pfft.

ROFLMAO - this f2p turdfest also want to d/l 25GBs when my retail full install is only 18.3GBs - are these clowns for real? :-/
