If you are bored of games that are 'like' WoW in general, then you will eventually get the same impression from this game.
I will say however, that in order to really get what this game is about, you need to do the following: 1. Be mainly a PvE Player, 2. Play with controller (yes, especially on PC, makes a world of difference), 3. Like interacting with guild/community.
I also tend to forget that gold spammers use trade chat mostly, which I'm almost never in, and my server was a lower population one, so it's also less affected. Add in the fact that some AddOns can block gold tells, though I think Blizzard did manage to counter the actual /tells by disallowing trial accounts and lowbies not on your friends list to send people messages. This is likely why I never saw them the last time I subbed to it.
But yeah, in the end, XIV is the superior game despite the little annoyances. Also it seems that, for the most part, the community is far less toxic than that of the WoW community.

Edit: Also, bullet, while I agree with the bulk of your post, I don't think playing with a controller is a requirement. While it does work very very well, it can be a hindrance depending on your class. I'd play DPS with one, but I definitely wouldn't ever heal or tank with one. Sure, with practice you could be very very good at either of those things, but I don't think it should be a "need to do" thing.
Even on the PS4.
Except the map, have fun with that trainwreck.
Honestly I guess it really all depends on what you're looking for in a game. Everyone likes different things. I know plenty of people who love WoW but didn't like FFXIV and vice versa. A lot of my friends that tried FFXIV couldn't stick to it because combat is kind of slow until you start unlocking more of your abilities around 40+ and things start to flow right. Usually people give up long before that. Also some people don't like that it's a heavily story driven game and it will slow down your gameplay the first time leveling to 50 and most people like to just rush to cap, especially if you're used to WoW. At first I couldn't stand playing FFXIV but I kind of forced myself to at least get to level cap to make a solid decision and I'm glad I did. I love end game, and I love being able to try out new jobs/classes on the same character if I ever do get bored of what I'm playing.
The community is pretty nice as well I haven't had any issues. Well there was one time in a WoD (raid) run and this guy was just something else, we ended up kicking him though and that solved that problem. But even then the community is way better than WoW imo.
The gold spammers are annoying but really all I do is put my tells in another window that's not open and turn off the sound. I will generally only look if I'm expecting a tell from someone. Then I just block whatever gold sellers that try to add me. This isn't a huge issue tbh.
People talk about not having flying but in reality A LOT of mmos don't have flying, hell GW2 doesn't even have mounts haha waypoints are nice and all but yeah I still miss having a mount occasionally. Lack of flying 1-50 isn't killing anyone I promise. I mean you can't fly in Draenor and won't be able to fly in future content so I really don't see why this is being brought up considering FFXIV is adding it to Heavensward zones.
Honestly you can have a handful of people tell you they love FFXIV and a handful say they hate it. No one will know how you'll like it except you. I'd say just give it a try. They do have a free trial period for like 10 days I think. Fair warning it will feel slow in comparison to WoW, do not go in thinking or expecting it to be WoW because it's not lol.
14 days ;)
