I'm seeing you're in Vietnam? Are you actually there?

Anyway, Vietnam is region blocked. Use a proxy IP or change your region.

Vietnam isn't region blocked per se. You just can't buy/get the game on Steam. Get it via retail or directly from SE.

...You just said it's not region blocked then defined region blocking.

Access to FF14 NA/EU/JPN is not blocked from anywhere. SE just chooses not to sell FF14 on Steam for certain regions.

For some strange reason, SE will sell FF14 in Vietnam, boxed (parallel import + retail distributor) or digitally... just not on Steam. AFAIK, it's a distributor thing, as in the distributor doesn't want Steam cannibalizing their sales.

You're again describing region blocking. They specifically block the purchase from certain countries. That's region blocking as far as Steam is concerned.

Sega also doesn't sell PSO2 outside Japan yet people have no problem making an account and playing it. As far as they're concerned they've region blocked the game though.

By your same logic because we can purchase a Japanese 3DS and play Japanese 3DS games on it, we're not region blocked, despite the platform we have, the American 3DS being unable to play them.

This is the same thing, just replace the platform with Steam. In this person's case, the Vietnamese client.

And no, they're not blocking because of a distribution issue. The game is not liscenced to be sold in the country of Vietnam. Period.

... and yet, you can buy it from SE directly, using a VN IP, using a VN CC/address/etc. Or walk into a store and buy the box. Not just VN, too but that whole block of counries, ASEAN.

I bought my HS expansion from Japan, getting the NA version.

As for the licensing, it was the same for FF11 and FM too. They just don't want to be in some regions in a retail sense... but they go through their usual distributors. The version of FF13 that's allowed to be sold in ASEAN is likewise different as a consequence.

Buy a shirt in Walmart in Dallas. The Walmart in Birmingham doesn't carry it, but the neighbouring KMart does. Region block in Birmingham?

It's a bit different from say buying a 3DS game in Tokyo, bringing it back home to LA and it won't run on the 3DS you bought in the US.

Actually if you bothered to even google it, Vietnamese customers have had issues purchasing off SE's shop. It's a known issue.

I had used a VPN to test it. I wasn't kidding about the IP blocking or lack thereof.

Look, let's stipulate that as far as you're concerned, FFXIV is region blocked in Vietnam.

Those who still want to play from Vietnam can use hungwar or have someone get the box for them or buy it from a software store in HCM. Box, digital, game time cards for NA/EU... just not Steam. For a bit more, Play-Asia will deliver from SG, HK or Japan, should you want to collect the special edition cards or get the CE in box form.

If you buy digitally from SE, make that your existing SE account (store account, not the gaming service account) has the right region or just make a new one and specify EU, NA or JPN.

Pretty much goes for every country in ASEAN + "neighbours". Get the game, make a compatible account and play. Some stores in SG will even sell game time codes (so you don't even need to pay for s&h on game time cards) for delivery via email.

You can use local forums to find other players in your region or just google "ffxiv + lodestone + vietnam" and set the time parameters to the last few months or so. gamevn is where I'd start looking if I were in Vietnam.
