So I the first cutscene involving the Garleans. And it really feels like watching the Galactic Empire. The voice digitizers in the helmets. Switch out the gunblades with lightsabers and you about nailed it Hell they even have the same Britishy accent.

I see it more like the empire from ff6 mixed with the one from ff12

FF12 is obviously inspired by Star Wars, even the game director said so at the time. FFXIV Garlean is much inspired by FF12 and only partly inspired by FF6 (their stand against Primal/Espers and the Magitek armour).

Think of it as going full circle, the Storm Trooper armor was somewhat inspired by Samurai armor after all.
