What is the Lodestone?

The title says it. It came up when I was trying to figure out (which I still haven’t figured out) how to search for Free Companies. Then it came up again in the main storyline, a character called me a "Lodestone" but didn’t elaborate on it. So I really don’t know what he meant.

So, with that I ask, what is Lodestone and is there a way to search for a Free Company in game?

The Lodestone is the official Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn site of information, resources and news:

There, you can look for the available Free Companies of your server, and filter them with different search criteria.

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Storyline is. You have to see it for yourself.

Or wait until they release a BD/DVD of it (they kinda have for 1.x). Some think it's just a miss-trans of the 'mother crystal'. For the most part, it just means the Lodestone website above.
