I don't like the current direction but gotta be realistic here.
If WoW can survive Shadowlands then I assure you that FF14 can survive Dawntrail just fine.
This aswell, They absolutely made a mockery of Arthas Menethil and they survived
(Much to my dismay)
Blizzard will always be on my ♥♥♥♥ list for that expansion alone.
Which are far fewer than in WoW, GW2 or other more gameplay-oriented MMOs. For more than half of all players this is a Barbie & Ken simulator.
If I log on WoW (whatever version) I know that every player I meet is in to get better gear and better at playing. That’s not the case in XIV.
Game is not gonna die but it will keep bleeding players that's for sure.
If 8.0 does not deliver than that will be the end of FF14 and with how things are going so far my expectations are super low.
Sure the devs talk about this and that has been done so many time, they are just really good at selling promises and not delivering on players expectations. The amount of stuff I was hyped for in this game over years just to be always somehow disappointed is way to high at this point.
I skip the story and got so board with it anyway I did the same. I stopped and am now trying to get crafting and gathering up.
Considering that WoW did survive 2 terrible expansions in a row (Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands) and managed to come back with improvements. Safe to say that XIV will still live as really the game is too big at this point for SE to give up on
However, I do hope that Dawntrail will give CBU3 the reality check that they need and realize that FF14 needs improvements
I honestly think they need new writers tbh, Yoshi told his story most of it was good but it fell hard after shadowbringer. The conclusion of Endwalker & post endwalker did extreme damage to any followup of the original timeline.
Yoshi is good at writing long stories when he doesn't have any source material to write with, The writer strongarming scions in as usual created a lot of damage imho. No new characters got a chance to shine just "lets call the expert! -Y'shtola noises-" We need firepower "Scions assemble!" they were supposed to all go their own ways but every single one ended up on same land mass automatically.
That's poor storytelling.
I think they should let Takuto Nakamura (Fantasia Neo Dev) take a crack at writing the next expansion, He wrote a really good story about someone with amnesia.
Next expansion i think we should be powered down (In scaling) with Hydaelyn gone our power is starting to fade and injuries aren't healing as quickly. This enables us to interact with less powerful foes we don't need to constantly be fighting Gods or entities from another realm. A little amnesia would be a good fix for them constantly trying to put Scions into everything, Get washed ashore somewhere in the world lose memory make new friends.
Rediscover your heroic calling, Save an undiscovered Kingdom, Possibly go to war with your old allies with them being perturbed why you're bearing fangs against them.
Tons of stuff that can be done.
