Worth playing long-term/Returning to.

Good evening all, from a realm reborn i have came back for each expansion and played a month at times and sometimes several months to even a year.
Currently mmorpgs seem to be dire and me and a friend are looking for a game to finally get into instead of jumping between them.
However we both played Dawntrail at launch and found it rather bad apart from the dungeons, and although there is a update coming it seems how do i say it formulaic?
I was wondering on other peoples views currently as although we are both struggling to find a game, it seems mmorpgs in general are doing nothing new and by current trends mmorpgs are slowly dying.
What do people think, is it worth coming back to final fantasy and trying to get into it long-term or is there just better things out there currently?

Well your issue is that you started on the new expansion which is rather bad on its story which is made worse because its a slow burn story. You can try the other things, like pvp or such if thatd be to your liking. Theres also New Game + so you can experience the story from the start.

Id say its worth coming back to, 7.1s story has me very interested but DT failed to deliver on much, maybe it needed more time or writers, idk. But from what I hear the main writer from ARR to EW took a vacation and didnt work on DT, and DT needed more work on its story badly. Its funny having the opposite of EW where the story was good, dungeons are too boring for the repetition of grinding them.

Theres also been a campaign for ff11 with it even being a sale, if youd wanna try it, i hear great things about ff11.

while DT wasn't particularly great, i still firmly believe that FFXIV is the best MMO currently out there. definitely worth playing.

however, since you've played each expansion, you should have a pretty decent idea of what the game is like. do you feel like playing? then do it. if not, then don't.

Why do people always parrot how the DT story is bad but never explain why it's bad? ::bigthink::

Anyway DT is probably the best expansion in terms of optional battle content. We haven't got good extreme/savage content like this since SB and that was years ago. Pvp is also leagues better post ShB.

Trying to sell anything on any world that isn't seraph is unfun i'm selling items 50% cheaper than lowest sale and still takes multiple days to do so.

Even off Dynamis, Aside from Aether & Crystal it's dead.

Thanks for the answers all, this is not my first expansion as i said, and it seems unless you are doing extreme/savage content then the game is not worth playing currently.
Was just seeing what people said here compared to the forums and youtube since alot of people do not seem happy with the current state of the game.
For a old mmorpg player like me however if really do not want to play wow again ever, but do not want to return to FF if even the current player base is soso about it.
To make matters worse im not big into story in games so :P
