FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Looking to possibly come back
Hey guys! I am a wow player have been since 2009. I tried ff14 when it relaunched back in the day and played it a bit off and on. I am curious how different is it now? Are there still a bunch of positional requirments and 123 combos?

123 combos, positionals for melee, artificially bloated rotations and only one way to play each job with zero individuality.
The game ain't in a great state atm, Aside from the in-game drought a lot of Data Centres are just dead.

I had a 3+ hour Queue during peak time for an Dawntrail Raid yesterday before finally giving up.

That's a current expansion raid, That leads into current (Newly added) content.

I'd say wait for 8.0 before jumping back in.

If you have no progress you have content but it's gunna take you a long time to do that content cause low playercounts and generally lack of interest in old zones.

For the people who already did the content you get jack now days, They have you on a dripfeed cycle and give you bottom barrel content till the final patch (7.25) No reason for someone whom is caught up to be subbed right now aside from stockpiling mats for next update.

As for the other half of what you asked, Refer to Daniel's comment they fully answered it.

TLDR; Keep playin WoW and keep an eye on the 8.0 Sentiment for the game, If 8.0 Doesn't hit (Next expansion) i don't think XIV will recover and they'll be forced to merge servers. Dynamis is already overdue for a merge but they're being stubborn about it.

The 123 combos and positionals are fine. There being 1 correct way to play a job is also fine, and pretty much how any MMOs works.

The main issues with job design in FFXIV at the minute are:

- Every job feels more or less the same because they all just 123 to build gauge, build resources and then press their cooldowns and spend gauge every 1 or 2 minutes.

- The damage rotations are just too simple overall. Most just require you to learn a standard opener and then press buttons on cooldown and spend gauge to avoid overcapping until your burst window.

I think they would benefit from looking at WoW and how they use procs and non-30/60/120 second cooldowns to make damage rotations feel more dynamic and less like 1 minute loops that you just loop mindlessly into infinity. Giving jobs some procs that they can use when they proc and some 20/40/90/180s cooldowns that don't line up as neatly would go a very long way to make jobs more engaging.

Yes, it still has positionals and combos.

Ignore the first two posters that are glorified trolls.

I mean, I believe the picture is slightly misleading because Dynamis being dead is a uniquely Dynamis problem, though it's certainly one that SE needs to reckon with.

But be serious. He's waited for over 3 hours for Jueno, current casual content at the time he posted it, on his home DC.
Again, it's likely a problem with Dynamis being considered the overflow/new character DC until you can travel to be a '''better''' DC more than the whole game is dead.

But either way, any reasonable person should know that's Not Good.

A handful of party messages spread likely before 3 hour wait period and a call for Chi he probably did waiting, which with WB scaling & between being last expansion's world boss AND being on Dynamis, could probably be done by a handful of people, is not really the smoking gun here...

You do realise you can recolor chat right?

Very basic in-game feature?

Jueno pops within 5 minutes on aether. Dynamis was propped up because of the covid rush and to keep the dawntrail queues low. It probably should have just been a temporary data center like the other one they had at DT launch that they set up for people to travel to.

It needs to be fused into Aether or Crystal, Before Dawntrail they basically forced new characters onto that DC (Dynamis). I make a new character for each expansion, Originally wanted Diabolos like my last 2 characters but SE said no.

Dunno bout now, But a 3 hours Queue on a DC that forced registration is a tad bit excessive no?

Most of animosity is coming from DC like Dynamis where people are getting shafted regularly, It should not be on me to pay more money to SE to transfer permanently to a new DC when they forced it.

Linkshells are also bunk. I don't think DC travel is an effective longterm solution.

The first DC merge we'll ever see is Dynamis into Primal. Calling it now.

I'd take it, SE is currently pretending it's not an issue.

People like Raansu / Weiss don't understand cause they haven't played long term on that DC, Everything is slow as hell. The "Hunt Chain" I apparently participated in was from people shouting in Solution 9, I saw it cause i was farming orange scrips for mount while waiting for Jueno. There's maybe 2 - 3 other people in that zone at any given time usually.

Moment boss died everyone gone within 10s back to their DC, Which aside from Housing is the only reason people like Dynamis . . You get multiple extra chances to fight serpent lord or chi per week just come from your high pop server steal our hunt then run away.

"Just DC Travel . . " Smh

Anyways, Getting off topic. Post Question was answered within first 3 answers. Everything else has just been argue.

That's only a band-aid solution since there're a lot of restrictions. However, I see people confusing the game being dead with one specific DC in NA being empty so they have 3 hour queues depending on the content they're queing for, so even with the restrictions if the main issue is the long queues, DC travel is a simple solution until SE addresses the issue (if ever), and fuses Dynamis with the more populated DCs.
