How to Play Scholar?
So, my Journey started as an Arcanist, i then became a Summoner. Now i want to try Out Scholar, what are your Tips for learning it/playing it. I Heard it is a Bad Job, is that true?

No, Adlo and Succor are not "trap" spells, EHP is the best mitigation in the game.

SCH is a very good job, it just has some issues with it's design that has some of it's abilities not play well together.

SCH is a lot more proactive then other healers are. SCH gets a massive kit and you can use all of it to sustain the tank and party, and you should be using all of your abilities even more proactively than tanks do.

Sorry, this is gonna be a lot, but I'll try to keep it SCH specific:

__________________________________________________________

* DPS as much as you feel comfortable doing, the faster mobs die the faster they stop doing damage. In dungeons SCH has almost unlimited space to use OGCDs, and you have a lot of OGCDs you can use.

* Keep GCD healing to a minimum.

* Chain is really good, remember to use it.

* Recitaiton on cooldown. it'll almost always go to Excog, but you are free to use it with Indom and Adlo too if you need it.

* Adlo your tank between pulls, it's a free buffer. Adlo yourself too if you can, you can use deploy on yourself to get back to back shields.

* Excog should 'almost' always be up on your tank, just make sure it actually goes off.

* Lustrate is your go to heal dungeons pulls, Energy Drain is not worth using when you have multiple mobs, just be mindful of your Aether and other cooldowns that use it, like Soil and Excog.

* It is absolutely fine to use Whispering and Soil for just your tank. SCH has very few burst heals, so it's more about sustaining your tank, if you need a buffer that's what Excog, Lustrate, and Adlo are for. SCH has a lot of tools and they are all very powerful. The longer you can keep your tank at a comfortable HP, the less you actually need to heal them.

* You can't use Fey Union, Fey Blessing, or Dissipation while Seraph is out, so plan your cooldowns, and try to get an order for yourself to use.

* Dissipation regularly, it's not the same as Temperance and Neutral Sect, just consider if there are any mechanics that require you to have your fairy, and make sure you don't overcap on Aether. If you use it at the end of a pull you can have 6 Aether to use on the next one.

* Try to Fey Union every other pull, It's better to use it with a lot of gauge and not just a little bit. Seraph also makes it weird and you'll want to use Seraph on the pulls when you don't have gauge for Fey Union. If you're ever in a situation where the pull takes forever and you have to use both then try to use Union before Seraph.

* Emergency Tactics is exactly what it says, try to only use it in emergencies if you really need to heal and have nothing else to use.

Any job you have fun playing is a good job.
It's easily the hardest healer job to play well. However, anyone who does serious raiding will tell you that a great scholar can make difficult fights easy, as they occupy a unique slot (Until Endwalker) of being the sole truly specialized Barrier Healer. (Astrologian can become a barrier healer as well, though not nearly as effective).

As a true barrier healer, a lot of your efficacy is going to come down to knowing when to throw barriers up on people, and that unfortunately will come down to learning fights. Once you can anticipate tankbusters and raidwides, you can drop your barriers on people before they get hit, and completely negate the need for much of your healing, and that is the key to playing scholar well.

My brief experience with Scholar suggests it has a "Trap" in its heal abilities like White Mage's Freecure off cure 1. Adloquium advertises itself as having an extra Barrier (In addition to its normal barrier) if you heal a target at low HP, and this itself makes it tempting to wait for someone to be at low HP (And typically adloquium is being used on the tank) to get the most out of your barrier and potency. I'd recommend against doing this intentionally, and simply consider it a "Bonus" and not something to try to optimize around, since the barriers are fairly short lived.

Scholar also gets one of the best raidbuffs in the game, Chain Strategem. Timing this effectively for burst windows will make you a quick party favorite.

I know for most of the game, Scholar and Dark Knight make an absolutely horrible pairing until Dark Knight end up getting their own Barrier effect (The Blackest Night). At that point a good SCH and DRK pair can literally take 0 damage tankbusters for days.

?? Did the move change when I wasn't looking?

I'm 99% sure adlo is crit triggered into giving a bigger shield

I am honestly very confused with this guys explanation as well. This is the 1st time I have heard Adlo being a trap spell under the same comparison as Cure's Freecure

Adlo IS crit triggered, and it grants double the amount of HP shield. Now imagine this healing like 1000 HP with Adlo grants 125% HP shield (1250 HP shield) if you crit you heal more than 1000 HP and grant 125% HP PLUS another 125% HP Shield that is a huge amount of HP Shield from Adlo. Pop a Tactical Deployment before the boss breaks that Uber shield and then the whole party gets thats nice Shield boost. Also SCH at later levels can force a Crit Adlo with Recitation.

Adlo is definitely not a Trap spell, Succor is a trap spell since it heals far less and is doesn't grant the double shield effect when it crits.

The only problem with SCH that I've run into, is that it's healing/shielding is strong, but rely on cooldowns and once those run out, it runs completely out of steam so you have to pace yourself and know when to use what and punishes the group heavily for mistakes if the SCH needs to use CDs to cover for them.

It's good in a good group, bad in a bad group.

But that's just my personal experience.
