Best Grand Company for Lancer/Dragoon?

I have come to point where I need to choose the GC for my Lancer soon to be Dragoon. And now I wonder which is best. On nearly all forums there is debate on whihc is better Twin Adder or Maelstorm.

Can anyone tell me which is better and why. And is there honestly any reason to even trouble myself with this choice. I mean does it even matter in the end?

If I remember right, the gear of Twin Adder give better DPS stats.
But on my main story I never even bought them.

Rather than stats, choose between desert, forests or sea, because on most of the time, you'll not use GC equipment.

You could consider the hunting log of your class on your decision too :P

since you will almost always be going to gridania for class quests, I would suggest twin adder, however, pirates (maelstorm)

It honestly doesn't matter. You probably won't even use GC gear until you level up a different class than DRG anyway. Just choose whichever GC you think is the coolest.

or if you'll want to go pvp later, pick after what your FC picked since you need to be in the same grand company ^^

I'd say it doesn't matter, stat wise - however, when you hit level 50, you unlock the glamour system, which lets you change the appearance of your gear. So really, which FC's aesthetic do you like? Also, bear in mind that you CAN change your GC allegiance later on, so you're not forever locked into that decision, if you decide you want to change. The first transfer is free, but any transfers afterwards cost 50k gil and you're unable to switch again until a 15 day cooldown goes by.
