There is no grind for the story

aye, between class quests and the MSQ itself, you'll keep pace with very little grind otherwise.

Grind a lot? Nah, Just buy current level gear from NPCS and you're usually golden.

Only exception is Crystal Tower, Lv 70 & Lv 90

And those exceptions is because not enough Item Level to enter instance by time you unlock them, Gotta do extra farming, Tomestone gear or buy off Marketboard to bypass those.

MSQ Doesn't have any difficulty past that, Real Difficulty is the 2,000 hours of cutscenes before you enter Dawntrail.

Difficulty; Don't fall the fk to sleep, Impossible.

It's not grindy by mmo standards. It's only grindy if you are a completionist and want to collect all the titles, achievements, items, etc.

if you just wanna do msq and you start on a preferred server, with the exp buff, there is virtually no grinding at all from start to finish. you'll get enough exp for your job just by completing main scenario quests and their dungeons.

If you just do one job you're guaranteed to get through the story without any grind. You can get one job up to max level through MSQ without the use of any extra buffs. With buffs you can get raise multiple jobs to level to let yourself flexibly go through on different roles.

The MSQ and other content should keep your gear up to date, but if you become gated there's easy options to overcome that hurdle that don't involve grinding. The game gives you a small stimulus of money so even if tomes don't work, marketboards can supplement what job gear and MSQ coffers won't.

But again if your desire is to just go through story content (MSQ, Normal Raids, Optional Trials etc...) you'll find yourself at no lack for what you need.
Here is my advice: Buy the MSQ skip potion/book.

The gatekeeping story just got in the way of me exploring the world (at my own leisure) and all I wanted to do was to get into raiding anyway.

Reading comprehension was never my strong suit. :steamhappy:

As mentioned by others, there is no grind during MSQ, unless you decide to change jobs along the way.

The grind is in endgame gear acquisition and crafter/gatherer leveling, among other "extra-curricular" activities.

the story isnt grindy tho.
but, the endgame is. aka when you gear up etc. pretty much WoW like, just not AS EXTREME like in WoW. aka you dont need to farm faction reputation etc. only weird stones XD.

This is definitely not the best way for the majority of people to enjoy the game.

If you want to just do MSQ you don't need to grind at all, it's just GO GO GO. Don't need to stop because the game will give you everything you need for you to continue playing the MSQ.

Ayo this is terrible general advice. For hardcore raiders and people that don't care about story and lore whatsoever, in most games, maybe.

You can do the story without grinding levels on the side if that's what you mean.

The story itself is a grind though. Catching up to hundreds of hours of story and not all of it is any good. And you will notice how the story gameplay loop hasn't changed during the games life much. Across the expansions you will enter a new area, run from corner to corner of the map doing establishing quests and after a long time doing that you get a big moment with a dungeon and you move on to the next area to do that all over again.

You need time, patience, and the hope that you will actually like the story. It's good though, you will probably like parts of heavensward and shadowbringers but it's not all good. Stormblood killed me and Endwalker made me quit the game.

When I started playing you couldn't question the tedious mind numbing story gameplay. I'm hoping the community is done brown nosing Yoshida.
