FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

How do people make friends here?
I play the game mostly off steam btw so don't mind the hours.
But I've watched a lot of videos from 2 streamers I like and Meoni and they say that the game has a great community and this and that.

But I got the game forever ago and said I'd like to try and RP, so I got recommended to go to Balmung instead. So I managed to make a character there and has been there now for around 8 weeks and still my friendslist is dry. Haven't met anyone that wants to RP, except for a few but their lvl 1 alts and only wanna be there for the "lood" then vanish.

I also gotten multiple classes to 80, and done the Nier Raids and such with lots of suffering as I have to queue alone and I still haven't met anyone to do content or RP with. The 3 people who signed my thing doesn't even log on and when I tried to join an FC I got kicked since I was an EU player.

I don't know how to socialize in this game x.x

Balmung is the kind of RP server that doesn't do fun adventuring RP, they do the adult/horny teen kind. Unfortunately I am not too familiar on the RP spectrum of the game but Balmung is famous for a reason. If you were into raiding and doing content I could maybe point you in the right direction but RP, you gonna have to do your research and hopefully you find an FC that does proper RP and not that degenerate stuff.

Free companies are where you'll want to start. In most cases it forms the base of your future connections. You'll get to know them, you'll get to know their friends and so on.

Free Companies are where it's at. It basically gives you a whole bunch of people to socialize with, if you aren't in one already I highly recommend you join one

I tried one FC but got kicked since I was an EU player and "Doesn't fit the FC's standards" and then I joined another one but it turned out that the FC owner was a mistress? And pretty much every FC member would always sit in the owner's house and never join content unless the FC leader told them to or came with. And got invited to a third FC but then was told that I have to be a stripper at their FC house every saturday at like 1am my time. I think coming to this server was a mistake but I have hopes to find some normal players eventually =-=

There usually the surefire way to meet people are with FC (already suggested) and the other being during regular play. RP FCs are somewhat a common occurrence in NA, what you're describing which sounds like a unfortunate pick. Depending on your DC, it's not uncommon to chat and meet people during instances, usually slower ones or open instances like Eureka/Bozjan.
You can also go to the reddit discord for ffxiv, people are friendly there and some which just sit on there waiting to help others, which may provide you a direction where to find a RP group.

That's Balmung unfortunately, hang in there buddy.

This is because FFXIV actually has a pretty awful community that can be incredibly toxic, anti-social and engage in highschool level drama. It's VERY server dependent and your best bet is to somehow get into some of the big exclusive Linkshells or find a Free Company that has more then 5 active members.
FFXIV is not a good place usually to make real friends.

Just talk to random people in hubs. That's how my friendships got started. Compliment some outfits you like?

The community is amazing so far I love the friends i've made here c: and I wouldn't mind having you as one either.

"Don't believe the comment above me"

Why? Because I and others have had a different experience then you? I can easily say the exact same thing to you "Don't believe this comment" because guess what? It's based on personal experience.

Also I did literally say it's highly server dependent lol

I have sent countless glamour compliments but it never really goes further than "Ty" or "Thanks you too" x) Some people make a conversation but then I never hear from them after the first interaction.

If you find out the secret let me know. I have exactly 3 friends on my list, and 2 of them are IRL friends.
*edit* I'm on Malboro so maybe that's the issue? I dunno, even meeting people from other worlds that I can vibe with in dungeons it never extends past that.

You should look into joining discord servers and a Free company.

Good place to start would be the official community finder on the lodestone. That way you can get a better idea of what an FC is about and whether you'll fit in before taking the plunge. (also EU player on Crystal btw!)

Yeah that's weird, never seen something like that before.

That one's not so unusual, but I'm impressed you managed to stumble into that situation blindly!
