Endgame is different for everyone. For me (at present) its completing Eureka and Bozja to gear up for the savage raids to get the mounts. For others its savage/ultimate raiding, others its crafting and making money. Its a themepark MMO, you make your own endgame
its very simple to explain.
the basegame aka A Realm Reborn is the patience filter. peoples which fail it leave usually.
if the story doesnt hooks you in heavensward, just simply quit. because then are story driven MMO jrpg´s not for you.
most classes start to get fun around lv 50+ you might say now "meh i have so less skills" but later at lv 70 and higher wish you, you would have lesser skills expecially for some classes which have multible combos.
TLDR; make it through the patience filter, look if the story of heavensward catches you, if not, play something else.
The GCD on this ruins the opportunity for fast gameplay....
OP, basic combat mechanics in Tera are way better than in FFXIV. That fact will never change. What will change is 1) the amount of things you'll have to do per minutes and how complex the rotations become as you get closer of max level and get more and more abilities and OGCDs, and 2) how complex the fight "choreography" becomes in PvE, with lots of overalaping more or less complex mechanics going on during the fights.
So there's two part of the answers here : yes; the fighting gets incredibly better than it is at the start as you progress, but no, it never becomes like Tera because the core gameplay in battle is too fundamentaly different. So if you really need that type of gameplay to enjoy the game, FFXIV just may not be for you.
Finally, just know that to reach max level content you'll have to go through the main story. The good thing is that you don't have to grind at all since the main story provides enough xp. The bad news in your case, is that it'll take you 2 to 3 hundred of hours of playtime to reach max level content if you mostly focus on the main story. So that lower level gameplay, you'll see it for a long while. if you can't continue after 10 hours of it, there's no way that game is for you.
