FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Lancer/Dragoon Combat
I have hit lvl35 on Dragoon and literally all I do is press 1 and 2 and then the jump move every 40 seconds or whatever. Does combat ever become even slightly interesting or is it just pressing 1 and 2 over and over then the occasional jump, or is dragoon just boring af

Edit. Thank you for the tips but Ima just quit if I have to deal with grinding to lvl80 for combat to become interesting

Becomes closer to lvl 70.

All jobs are very limited at that low level. At 80 you will have a full rotation with a ton of buttons to push.

It starts to come into its own around level 56 (?) with Blood of the Dragon. You'll later unlock a fourth hit for your combo (Fang & Claw/Wheeling Thrust), which is a directional. At higher levels you'll unlock a fifth hit (if you used Fang & Claw, then you use Wheeling Thrust as your fifth hit and vice versa)

By level 80 you'll have a sixth hit (Raiden Thrust) which is an improved version of True Thrust and goes right into Vorpal Thrust or Disembowel. No other class has that many hits as part of their combo.

Combined with the three attacking jumps you've got, the line AoE Geirskogul, and later, the upgrade into Life of the Dragon (which unlocks your most powerful attack, Stardiver), and you've got a reasonably mobile melee DPS with plenty of party support as well.

Dude, Dragoons have 0 chill at later levels.

Until lvl50, most jobs feel very clunky and incomplete. For some reason they just don't give you complete rotations before that. I hate that, because while you have been getting used to keybinds/clicks in a certain way, at some point you have to overhaul everything again and get used to the your new layout.

Imo full basic rotation should be introduced as soon as possible during character progression.

And then even later on, many jobs just have too many buttons to create keybinds for lol. You wish SE would update their MMO and put chained abilities under the same button for example, to save space.
I'm glad that the telegraphed attacks are so easily visible while I am staring at my hotbars :p

So tl;dr. Classes start clunky and incomplete and stay that up to lvl50. Then after that some start to feel convoluted and you long back to your empty hotbars lol.

That is precisely the reason I like my Red and Blue mages.

Red because they get a lot early. Good AOE rotations, good melee/ranged rotations, great single target too. All before they even reach 35

Maybe you meant something different, because Red Mage starts at lvl50, no? So you get immediately a full lvl50 setup.

I am more refering to when you get synced down

Red Mage imo is the least painful job to sync down.

Dragoons on the other hand... Once you get used to the high flying, back flipping SOB that is a dragoon and wind up synced down. You genuinely feel like you were neutered.

All base classes start slow and add abilities as you go along. On my main job I have 3 totally full hot bars of skills/abilities and I use every single one every dungeon. A lot of them being off gcd abilities that have to be woven between god’s. Stick with it and you’ll have so many buttons to hit that you’ll have to practice just to get your rotation memorized enough to perform it while doing boss mechanics.

Oh right. Guess that makes it easier to get used to the many new skills.

Yeah, you spend combat staring at your hot bars unfortunately :p I wonder if many of the classes could combine some of the skill chains into one button that changes while using it. Some other MMORPG's do this too. It saves space on hot bars.

So kind of how a proc works, but then instead of just a highlighting, it changes the skill to next skill in chain.

Dragoon is a really flashy and fun class, probably one of the most "high energy" like monk is in the end game.

The only downside is Dragoon has one of the WORST starts and is sooo boring for awhile. It might suck hearing but Dragoon starts to really shine from 60 onwards.
Ah, only level 30 something, yeah sounds about right.

Try getting to 50 first, maybe even 80.

thats A realm Reborn in a nutshell for mostly every class. dont worry, you will reach a point where you have so many skills that you dont even know where to putt all of them to have them properly in your rotation =3
