This time around i picked Marauder - > Warrior and the combat didn't bother me at all (coming in from TBC Classic)
There's a lot to do in the fights with positioning/planning/skills off the cooldown that you don't notice the GCD much past 50
I'm really glad i stuck it out this time around, FF14 has some really awesome elements to it that sucks you in, havn't had this much fun in an MMO in YEARS
It's fun for a hot minute, then it dries up extremely quickly once you finish your dungeons and its time for raids etc
You struggle to do leveling dungeons in real groups because everyone and their mother is getting boosted by mages for gold, so do you quest or give up and get boosted too?
The min/max culture of the re-hashed 15 year old game means everyone is so max dps focused that if you are not part of the meta you need to make your own teams or not get accepted into any groups which is not what TBC had first time around
You cant get a tank to pug your dungeons unless you bribe with gold so it slows down dramatically (or you cave and make your own tank)
The hour long queues for PVP horde side (sorta fixed with merc horde v horde) also drained enthusiasm
It just seemed like every choice there was against a wall of 'unfun' which isnt what you want in your gaming hobby so its really easy to logout and not bother logging back in
Also, there's a sort of ingrained 'sucks to be you' culture that doesn't inspire you to stick around
Which is a big part of what is refreshing in FF14
A lot more positive vibes here
So, big question on my mind is how did they handle the start of it?
I thought the best way to go about it would be for players to have been able to copy their character from the classic realm to the TBC realm and play both separately.
(don't tell me that classic is just over and there are no more 1-60 classic servers after all the years it took to get them)
or did they make it so everyone starts over at level 1 and it's a mad rush to get 60 to do TBC? If that's the case, that would be a much different start to the expansion than the first time around, though honestly I got the impression that as time went on they stopped caring about classic being as-faithful-as-possible recreation of how the game was in 2004.
When you login first time you have to make a choice: 1) go to TBC (nothing changes, its the default) and carry on with your leveling (even if you are level 1 character etc) or 2) stay in default classic (noone picked this, Classic is dead now)
You can also pay Activision a fee to clone your character so you have both of the 2 options above (whichever you didnt choose first time) at same time (there's no point in classic when tbc replaced it)
there are no fresh servers for TBC Classic, there are no fresh Classic servers
Everything is a continuation
And there it is. In case you haven't noticed, this is a Final Fantasy game. It seems like you're only here because you let yourself be influenced by a YouTuber. If you're not here for Final Fantasy, then this isn't the game for you.
Yeah this is partly why any hype I had for WotLK classic died awhile back. I just can't in good faith support them anymore between doing their utmost to monetize the classics and the absolute disaster that is Shadowlands (and was BFA). At this point I'm fully expecting D4 to be another D3-level disaster as well.
Look man, you can be a Final Fantasy fan and still think this game has too much fluff.
When I play FFX, I'm not in a cutscene 90% of the time and only playing 10% of the time.
This is the reason why players started to jump ship from WoW.
All we got left are the later side.
Even Mark Kern now started playing FFXIV. He's been actively talking about this on twitter.
Classic wouldn't happen if Mark didn't actively collect petition from players and staff who demanded, and pushed it to the higher up.
