Fights in XIV are mechanic based so you don't always need to be healing, like Jethro said it's more predictable, in the sense that things are either scripted or telegraphed
If anything maybe just make your party list bigger and move it closer to the middle
TBH it sound like FF14 is on the easy/simple scale as far as group PvE content and they're limited by poor control/UI (probably to account for console) and lack of addon (it sounds like they don't exist even in un supported form outside of visual one?). Probably not for me then.
Yeah they'd be nice to have for sure, but I don't think SE will ever let addons like that in, even stuff like ACT and GShade, while they likely won't get you banned are still in the grey area because they're against the TOS
I wouldn't say XIV is simple with healing, just different from WOW and really scripted, but because the healing IS scripted they tend to make the raidwides and damage that your party does take really high so you still do plenty of healing, you just happen to know when it's coming, so it's more about preplanning and less about reacting
Some fights like E12s for example are incredibly heal intensive, especially on release, to the point where raidwides are just wipes if they're not mitigated and shielded properly
This way you "can" play resto as a whm or any other healer for that matter.
I.e;
/micon "Healz"
/ac "Healz" <mo>
/ac "Healz" <me>
You'll still have the spell be queued but it's better than dealing with the cancer of having to manually target and lose your focus. In the end you save more time by doing this regardless.
Now since this isn't a standard you'll often see most of it not all console players and plebs only focus on one thing at a time. And this only adds even more time wasted on things that could've gone faster which only adds up the more/longer you play.
Even if it's just DF, the healer only being a healbot can add 5-10min extra each run (...multiply by X runs and you get the idea). Especially for dungeons where WHMs shine which is lvl 50-70 content, which happens to be why they removed Aero 3. I mean we can't have a good WHM dealing more deeps than the crappy DPS now can you?
