I'm still new but there are clear differences, let me take one example :
In WoW you have to grind until you get the right drop : raid/dungeon-M+/Weekly Vault.
In FFXIV, you have RNG drops BUT you also get currencies (think of WotLK but better), that will allow you to get what you want/BiS.
Hardest content isn't DPS/Gear checks but how well you play, which is what it should be about.
Did you manage to get up to high level?
Hmm sounds cool. Is there a pvp too or its just mainly PvE?
I work 50 hours a week and have not had much trouble finding time to play. It depends on your work life balance and commitments I suppose.
This game really can test your patience.
It respects your time on a level that coming from WOW .... honestly is infuriating to compare .... you had this notion of how things were done and felt it was fair and then you find out no ... they were hoping you didn't know about what others are doing.
If you dont play this for a few days ... you dont feel like you are a month behind in progress .... and the systems in place to offer "catch up" like rested XP and such are CONSIDERABLY more rewarding.
You could login for 20mins a day and do 1 single dungeon roulette and level a full level in those 20mins every day.
