I disagree with some of these replies though. Recruiting through chat is totally cool and some FCs put some thought into it. Honestly, there arent a whole lot of ways to recruit people other than getting the word out. I know back in 1.0, I used to give invites to people I liked in my EXP parties.
But all we really have now are Dungeons, which is probably the worst place possible to find FC members, specially with 8 party groups concerned with just speed running for gears or completetion.
Because of this, FC recruitment will rely on this system.
Everyone who wants to join one will eventually find one they like among these random invites and the ones who keep declining will just have to deal with them over and over.
FFXIV has some serious cameradie issues and its not very sociable (Look how painfully obvious it is in this thread). The best thing you can do is find a FC with some as fast as possible.
Honestly, I didnt accept those invites either and waited quite a while for someone to come along and pick me up during the Lightning Returns event. I can wonder is why it took so long, I've always tried to make it a point be friendly because I don't like the way the community is going.
It doesnt really even matter though, my FC died and now I became master by default after 2.0. It was a slow death because most people were busy doing their own thing because the game caters to solo play so it was hard for people become rooted together.
Meanwhile, my LS I joined in 1.0 is full of players that played XI and they're always talking on chat. I consider myself lucky to be a part of it. Easier to recruit too, since you don' t have to consider if they're already in one. After that, its just a matter of winning them over by just being active in general.
(Woah, this post became wordy, lol)
TLDR: I actually like the random invites to some extent. It actually brings the players together.
That is a much better way, really. If I had gotten an invite like that when I was starting out, I'd probably have accepted.
Now that I'm level 50 without a GC, though, I got too used to being anti-social :p
His FC was apparently focused on running high-level FATEs, which makes you wonder why he'd invite a level 2.
Solo player or not, that was immensely annoying.
Recruiting that way improves the reputation of a guild in my eyes and many others.
