Find a server that averages less than150 ms
Well, it's about FIVE THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED kilometers between me, and the game server.
The CONSTANT lag I'm experiencing, has NOTHING to do with my hardware... Trust me.
You people are so stubborn...
It is not HARDWARE LAG. I KNOW hardware lag...
It's DELAY. A constant DELAY.
I click my button, the attack goes off, the enemy gets hit, and then about 1-2 seconds later, it's health bar decreases/it dies. I see all the pretty animations (beautiful, flawlessly running, NON LAGGING/CHOPPING, attack animations) but it takes 1-2 seconds for the game world to respond to my actions.
I click to talk to an NPC, or I click a quest item on the ground, 1-2 seconds later, the chat is initiated, or my character starts to interact with the item.
THE GAME RUNS SMOOTHLY, it's just DELAYED.
Everything is DELAYED.
The EUROPEAN server, is located in CANADA.
IN, CA-NA-DA!
There is a LONG way for all the game data to travel back and forth between european countries, and CANADA.
Computer hardware, doesn't effect CONNECTION SPEED, unless there is something malfunctioning or broken, which there is NOT.
Give,
it,
up.
It is a rediculous decision to place E-U-R-O-P-E-A-N, online, game servers, OUTSIDE OF EUROPE, and it WILL, cause LAG/DELAY, whatever you want to call it, for many european players.
And if you are defending that decision, I question your competence in the matter enought to render your opinion --> invalid.
I'm in the UK, my connection to the EU servers (in canada) is flawless (and connects via several cities in central europe) at 30-35ms response time at peak times. If you're getting much more than this (a 1-second delay would be 500ms) consider changing ISP.
On a semi-related note, EA used to call their European servers "German" due to them being in Germany (quite a logical place to put them), this caused most European players to use the American servers, incorrectly believing the EU servers to be only for German players. Simmilar thing here, it needs to be clearer that the "EU" servers are for people playing at EU-like times rather than specifically for players in Europe.
Maybe they should put a "ping" counter on the world selection screen? So you can pick the server with the least latency.
I ran a speed test earlier when i was in a particularly laggy area, it came back as:
Ping 4ms
D/L 125Mb/s
U/L 15Mb/s
So it's not related to connection speed.
Have you tried pinging a server in america rather than one on your doorstep?
Download speed is almost completely unrelated to response time when considering connections outside of your own country.
Connections from Manchester will NOT lag unless it's caused by some other factor, the city has one of the best international internet connections in the world.
Presuming that you're using a commercial ISP it could be throttling your connection to the game's servers, look for patterns in WHEN you lag/don't lag i.e. it would usually only be throttled between 7pm and 2am (as an example).
Hmm maybe your right.. I just tried a server on the west coast of America and my ping was almost 200ms.. I'm with Virgin but I've heard some UK ISP's (BT) throttle peer 2 peer connections. Maybe i'll just start playing in the middle of the night
Yeah Square Enix had a LOT of problems with people that were using BT (there's still an open forum topic about it on the official forums), one major problem is that all non-cable Broadband providers in the UK use BTs servers.
I'm also on virgin and not got any problems so I doubt they're throttling it.
On a related note, the game doesn't use peer-to-peer connections, but several ISPs somehow detect it as being a peer-to-peer application.
TECHNICALLY, we live on a planet that is shaped like a globe, not a map, so yeah your much closer to Canada that a europian is
Canada yes, Montreal no. It is on east coast of canada so russia is further then europe
