Good job for Thaumaturge?
Just started playing last night. I'm going for black mage. What job/jobs are good for black mage? As in mining or goldsmithing, that type of thing. Not really sure which would be more helpful or if it even matters. Any info on job related anything would be great. Thanks!

If you aim Black Mage, then you need 30 levels in Thaumaturge and 15 in archer.
For crafting and gathering classes, Weaver, Goldsmith, Botanist, Mining are the best for you, IMHO.

Play the game, figure out what you need, then decide. Honestly crafted armor is worthless since you get your artifact armor at 45 and at 50 you'll be getting armor from end game content that's miles better than anything craftable. The quest reward armor is more than adequate for the 1->44 trail.

As a Thaumaturge, your job will be Black Mage, and Sub classes are Archer and Arcanist. I'm also a BLM so welcome to the club :tlove:

There are a few crafted niceties you might want at level 50, astral rings/etc, the idea being to multi-meld them so that they give you the +durability that say a Ring of Fending does (normally something a tank job will use) together with the more typical +Stat boosts a caster would like. With the right melds, you get a hybrid tank/caster piece of jewelry, very useful.

So Goldsmith to craft/meld these and Mining to get most of the needed materials (some have to be bought from a vendor). Be warned, although it doesn't take much time to get the DOH jobs to 50, it can get expensive to then gear yourself just to be able to attempt some of the crafts.

This can be very, very expensive. Most people just aim for drops from various dungeons/events, call it 'Best in Slot' and leave it at that. But if you see a small, smug taru BLM with 460 acc, near 500 INT AND almost 5k HP... punt the filthy rich #$%^ for an incredible field goal!

If you mean for crafting equipment, THM (Thaumaturge) / BLM (Black Mage) uses armor made by Weaver (hat, top, pants) leatherworker (gloves, shoes) and goldsmith (rings, bracelets, earrings).
Your weapon is crafted by carpenters, so is the shield.

Weaver requires materials gained from botanist (plants/fibers) leatherworker requires items dropped by monsters, goldsmith requires items from mining(ores/gems), carpenter requires items from botanist (wood/logs).

To unlock BLM you need lvl 30 THM and lvl 15 ARC (archer).

I'd recommend getting Arcanist to lvl 4 to unlock physick, this can be equipped as a THM/BLM by using the "additional" option in the "actions & traits" menu.
This allows you to heal yourself (good for when you're playing solo).
