Voice Acting
Games like The Elder Scrolls Online and StarWars the Old Republic have spoiled me--I WISH this game had voice acting =(

Honestly the fact that there is very little VO is fine with me. I'm used to the old FF games so I feel right at home reading text. Plus it allows me to imagine a voice for them instead.

Pretty much any cut scene that address you, the player, will not have a voiced cut scene for obvious reasons.
Do you mean that they can't say my name?
Because that didn't stop GW2 one bit.

You know they use vague names such as "Wanderer" or "Hero" and it works pretty well.

Oh, they do that here too. 'Adventurer' comes to mind.

BTW, if you haven't (and understand the localized languages), try changing the 'spoken language' as mentioned above. Occasionally, the localisation teams have taken some liberties (just look at the quest names, unless you think puns translate well from Japanese to English).

PS Look for 'crotchrot'... it's in there...

I agree that the lack of voice acting is rather jarring compared to the parts that are voice acted. I don't mind that there isn't voice acting for minor NPC's who give you side quests. I understand that getting every character in the game a voice would be rather expensive. Doing some reading for side quests is no big deal to me.

What I find jarring is when they have a scene that starts out with voice acting, but then suddenly switches to text. For example, there are a lot of scenes with Minfilia that are like that. Also, in the opening for each of the cities your character starts in a voice-acted scene, then it switches to a super long text-only scene with the old man, then it switches to a voice-acted narrator just before the FFXIV title screen. It's just incredibility inconsistent.

Heh. You all think VA is bad in here... you really have to youtube Dragon Nest English VA. Now THAT is a horrible horrible VA :D Although that only adds some charm to the game.

Nobody has said anything about whether or not the voice actors are good :P

I will: the voice actors are rubbish.

Most of them anyway.

Your trying to tell a story and it really hurts the atsmosphere when i have to stop and read forty pages of text to know what is going on.

Back in my day we had these things called 'books'. They used to work pretty well.

You missed the point. Having moments with voice acting, suddenly going back to text only, then going back to voices again, it can be rather jarring.

In short, it's better to have 'all text' or 'all voice'. EQ2 was like that too, they hired two big actors and a host of smaller ones... but they didn't 'voice' every thing.

FFXI had no voices in game. I think I'd have preferred if FFXIV had gone the same route. Then again... have you done japanese audio/english text...

Guess this sort of thing is personal, I don't have a complaint about this. The good is equal to the bad or more.

Good voice acting is about the only thing ESO actually has going for it though to be fair lol.

I'm glad this game doesn't have voice acting. I find it irritating except for important cutscenes, especially when you're hearing the same VA's over and over again, using the same voice for different characters. It ruins the immersion for me (Skyrim was awful for it).

But it does, periodically.

Wow people actually care about the crappy writing and listen to the voice acting?
