FFXI vs FFXIV?

Whats the difference and which is worth it. Is there less player base than the other or a different monthly fee?

I was curious of this also. Is it an expansion of the other game or a brand new game.

not sure where to begin and where to end for the differences lol
as for playerbase FFXIV defently has more ppl playing it...the monthly fee is about the same

well the offciall website shows that their 1.8mill sub..as for a good time, depends game just 5months old and depending on how u burn the content there might or might not be enought stuff for u to do...as a side note we are getting a content update next month and there content updates every 3-4months or so and an expansion planned for fall/winter

Would say, now is the best time to start because there will be plenty "noobs" to play with and many new linkshells will rise. The next good time would be when it gets its first deal(after the initial 50% deal). After release+short after an deal is the best time to play such a game because the playerbase is high....

/edit: atm 1260 players play ffxiv on steam. and most likely way more with standalone client...

well FFXI is 11 years old and that saying alot, its also a lot more old school, u actually have to go into menus, like FF7,8,9 to pick skill while fighting (unless u bother doing maros)
FFXIV as i said is just 5months so on the long run it has a lot more future and combat is a lot more fluid fast pased
also in FFXI there isnt anything going on in the low level areas since most player are at lvlcap so u wont be seeing a lot of playing running around in FFXI

what i would highly recommend is pick FFXIV now thats on sale since the price tag is well worth the return u get and try FFXI free trial to form ur own opinion

i would also like to pointout that im highly biased since i love FFXIV and also have fond memorys of FFXI

Dont know who you mean, but i never played ffxi...i would say you should go with ffxiv because...its newer :D the playerbase is higher and it will get more and more content over the next time. ffxi is what...10 years old?...you would be a noob between very experienced players...not so much fun i think and you would need to learn so much from wikias and such sites, or you would need to spam a linkshell(if you find one)...ffxi is very complex, i think even more complex than ffxiv...
Cant say so much about ffxi(i couldnt afford the monthly fees and i waited maaaany years for private server, which never came :(...but...will buy it somewhen for my collection xD)...

I pre ordered ffxiv 1.0 and played the beta from ffxiv 2.0...its a nice game...but, please, dont think it is a classic Final Fantasy game...it is nothing like that you can say...only some music samples and enemies are the same :D the gameplay is completely different...thats actually not bad, because it is still a MMORPG...which needs a more direct gameplay...

I hope someone with more experience can tell you more about it...

Not really...1.0 came out some years ago...i dont even know when...end 2010?2011? Would need to google and im too lazy for that atm :D my Eozeria flag hangs since a long time on my wall...Only the new interpretation(ARR) is 5 months old...but its way older because they worked on it for a year or so? dont know...

yeah i know but ARR is pretty much a new game compared to v1.0 they pretty much revamp eveything
oh i forgot to mention that FFXIV doesnt inovate anything in the MMO genre cuse it never wanted to...what they did is take the MMO models that out there and put it in an FF universe, and i think that the fact that is has 1.8mill sub and goes on strong says that it works

FF11 a little over 10 years and old and still around. Remember it was initially designed for PS2 lol so it was severely limited in what could be done on PC and xbox 360.

FF14 ARR was what FF14 originally should have been, which was a complete travesity really. I mean serioulsy the board got rid of the original FF14 dev team and brought on the current dev team. They did a good job overall given the mess they had to fix.

the biggest difference between 11 and 14 arr. YOu can die all you wont and no deleveling.

Final Fantasy XI has never broke 600,000 subscribers at the same time. Final Fantasy XIV has 1.8 MILLION right now...

FFXI is a much slower game. FFXIV requires a lot more movement and knowing how the jobs work than FFXI does.

FFXIV everything is different and its very modernized and FFXI is very old. THey are trying to copy a lot of modern features into ffxi.

I would say to people wo like faster pased combat try ffxiv. its a very welcome change from ffxi

you can solo most of the story. the parts where you have to party up they find people for you. a lot more user friendly than 11. i would look into some of the jobs and see if your interested in them before you buy.
