Service Account issue - Warning to anyone moving from PS5 to PC
Word of warning, or alarm, to anyone who's moving from one platform to another!

I've plaid the game on Playstation and bought FF14 + Endwalker now on Steam - but it doesn't allow me to use my Playstation characters because of the whole mess with 'Service Accounts'.

After purchasing the game in Steam you have to register or login to SquareEnix account, so I logged to my account and Mog Station automatically put you to Service Account 2 where I ended up entering both keys - which as new user you don't realise is an problem and has caused issues:
A) your PS5 subscription doesn't transfer
B) your PS5 characters don't transfer

What I apparently should had done is to realise that there's a system that creates 'Service Accounts 1, 2' etc and you need to register the Steam keys in the Service Account 1 instead.

I've opened two tickets to transfer my main FF14 and another for Endwalker to be moved back to Service Account 1 so I could carry on - link for the support here:

Yeah, Steam is completely separate from other platforms for some reason. If you want to share characters with PlayStation, you need to buy the PC version directly from SqEnix. Why they thought this was a good idea is beyond me.

I did not know that I can't share characters to Steam version and this wasn't clear at any point.

In the form about Service Account issue; there was an option about game being purchased from Steam - but I still got an email asking from Support asking proof about the purchase from an retailer instead. At this point I'll see if I can obtain an refund from Steam and just abandon the idea playing on PC.

What are you talking about, I can use single service account on both ps4 and steam, just needed to buy game for both ps4 and steam and register codes to my one and only service account.

To make matters worse: the game doesn't download via Steam. You have to download it via the launcher app and it took 14 hours to download, but in Steam it looks like I've played 14 hours - making the refund request problematic... Extremely infuriating and poor service.

You can't refund FFXIV anyway because the purchase includes sub time. It says "This product is not eligible for refund" next to the buy button on the store page.

That's what I was worried about. So I just lost my money - I have no interest to start the game from nothing. In fact this soured my feelings to the game entirely.

The hell are you smoking? You absolutely can register both PS and Steam under the same service account..

The OP created and added the key to A SEPARATE service account from his PS account, its 100% user error.

The fact when you purchase FF14 in Steam, you have to create/login to your SquareEnix account - the process pushes you to create a new Service Account, rather than advice you to register the CD keys under previous Service Account. There is no mention anywhere that having keys under separate Service Accounts will not allow you to access characters from other platform (edit: They're both under same account username and password after all).

Entire process was confusing and the Service Accounts system itself is backwards.

Considering this issue is officially in FAQ - it's an known issue.

it is well known that the steam version is not compatible with windows and co. versions of the game. why you didnt knew this is to say it with mosleys words "beyond me".

maybe you should´ve looked up if what you think would work does indeed work.
the question is why you even bought it for PC o-o PS5 broken? dont want to play anymore on console o.o? anyways, SE states that console, windows, mac and steam service accounts are not compatible with eachother. ofcourse includes that the characters. maybe you could transfer your character from the console version to the PC versi.... wait something like character transfer does not exist in SE´s service ... that was a WoW thing x.x.

They have never said any of that, the Only thing SE says is PC and Steam cannot be on the same service account.
You can have Steam/PS/Mac, or you can have PC/PS/Mac, thats why all the platforms are included, except for the opposite PC platform, in the "what do I have access to" chart in Mogstation.
You cannot have PC/Steam/PS/Mac.

one word
nope.

you get that aswell told when you buy something from the store. you always need to selecz a specific service account and a character. you have it not across all service accounts. same counts for the characters on its own. i mean alone when you know already that for example steam and windows service accounts are not compatible with eachother is it more or less clear that the other versions are aswell not compatible with eachother.

atleast he didnt came with "i got scammed from SE" he could´ve atleast looked up if characters can be shared across the versions before throwing his money out of the window. in my opinion is it to a huge chunk his own fault.

SquareEnix has stated before that you can share characters between different platforms - I don't quite get the idea who or where it was stated that this wouldn't be possible. I have a friend who plays the game on console and on PC using same characters, so it must be possible.

but you have steam and console. not windows and console... if i see that right. except that mouse symbol next to your name is not real. windows and steam accounts are not compatible nor are console and steam accounts compatible. maybe you should´ve bought the windows version and not the steam version if you are so sure that it is possible. fact is, the steam version is with no other plattform compatible. and that fact is well known.

I'm fairly new to Final Fantasy 14 and I don't read forums regularly.

Where is what you say 'well known fact' stated in any official capacity? There's nothing about Steam being incompatible with Playstation in SquareEnix Support, Final Fantasy 14 Support or Steam Store page. If you could point me towards, or link the official information about this.

Go ahead and keep trying to tell me that me and everyone else is wrong that PC/PS/Mac or Steam/PS/Mac can be on the same service account

This is 100% a case of user error and not clicking the big shiny add license button that would have said steam under their correct service account

https://imgur.com/a/CTOWc2W

Anyone that plays on steam will have the chart say Steam instead of Windows
