How to make Dark Knight?
Is there anyway I can play as a level one Dark knight. I realise you must be level 30 to unlock this class, but once unlocked can I just make a new level 1 character and start out from scratch as a Dark knight?

Thanks

You don't need to be level 30 to unlock this class.

You need to be level 50. And have completed the 2.55 ARR Storyline.

You cannot start a new character as this class.

So how have I seen level 15 Dark Knights? Do they have a level 50 main?

When you go into low level dungeon via Duty Finder you can be level synced down to what level the dungeon is (there's Undersized Party which negates Level Sync).

the game gives rewards for players to reduce their level and go back, it helps new players.

I suggest you choose a different class to level to 50, you can keep the char itself and he will gain all the classes, but you cant be a darknight, astro or machinist until you finished the lvl 50 story.

You haven't. And yes, they do.

So you want to be a dark knight?
Judging by your question you probably just started out. Hopefully you have not purchaced Heavensward yet. All of the above posts are correct. If i am correct and you are just now getting into the game, I am here to help you. What I stongly suggest you do is strt your new character as a Maradur( i think thats how you spell it) They most closely resemble dark Knights in the way of stats and mechanics. Some might argue that Gladiator would be in this case but out of the two tank classes you would have available at this time Maradur will have an easier time. Once you are in game, you will focus on two things primarily, Story quests efficient exp gaining. Doing this you should have a character ready to be a dark knight in about 2 weeks. A execellent Free Company helps as well. Free Companys are like guilds / player communities in this game. A good Free company is extrememly rare however. If you are really serious, about this, I will be willing to coach you, I play on the Ultros server found in the primal data center.

do i wear the same tanking plate and weapons after i turn darkknight? or is there class spesfic?
Gabby Jul 1, 2015 @ 7:39pm
Same.

Mostly the same, except for AF (Job gear) and PvP gear (PLD was Lion and WAR was Bear, forgot to check what animal is DRK).

Thank you for the help, i think I understand it now.
Is there any benefit to choosing a specific class to get to level 50 before switching to a Dark Knight? What I mean is, if I play as a mage, then switch at 50 to be a dark knight, other than the lack of tanking experience, will my character be gimped in any other way?

Thanks

Not really gimped, but there is a thing called "Cross Class Actions". What this is is if you level up certain classes, you can bring over some skills onto a different class. The skills and classes you need to level is different for each one.

For Dark Knight it's Gladiator level 34 and Marauder level 26 for all cross class skills. You will want level 22 Gladiator for Provoke since it's a very important skill.

However with Armory Bonus, even if you pick a mage to level, you will get increased EXP gains on your sub classes until they catch up to your mage's level.

So if you level up Black Mage to level 50, then Gladiator, Marauder and Dark Knight will all get 100% bonus EXP from kills and FATEs until they hit 50.

So if you really enjoy mage, go ahead and play it. Leveling up sub classes to 34 and 26 isn't that hard but it can take a few days.
i have the same problem. anyone that knows how to be a Dark Knight: can any class have the Dark Knight Job? if so, please give me wisdom about it.

There is no class requirement to get dark knight. You only need to do all the story quest up until you reach hevensward content.
Moridin Feb 7, 2016 @ 7:09pm
The only requirement for Dark knight is to have completed the story up to patch 2.55 and the first couple of story quests in 3.0 to get into the city of Ishgard. There are no limits what classes and jobs your character can use. As Dark Knight is a job it starts at level 30, like all the other jobs. Unless you choose to go into a dungeon unsynced, which has some penaltys, you will be level synced to the maximum level the dungeon will allow.
