How can a Legacy account holder play FFXIV using Steam?

Hello,

Apologies if this question has already been answered in another thread. I've seen a few threads on this topic, but the question still has not been answered clearly.

I currently have a FFXIV 1.0 Legacy account (not activated yet) and am looking to return to the game for 2.0 and HW. I would prefer to play the game via Steam and be able to pay for the subscription fee using the Steam Wallet:

- From what I have read, I can install the trial version on steam, but instead of using the trial code that I receive, login using my SE/Mogstation account information to access my Legacy account character/s. If I were to proceed this way, will I still be able to pay for the subscription fees via Steam Wallet?

- If I want to play Heavensward, I would need to purchase the retail (non-Steam) version, and apply that to my account via Mogstation. Once it has been applied, will the content be available to me when I login via Steam? Does this mean that I am still "technically" playing the retail version of the game, but just using Steam as a launcher? If so, how does this affect being able to pay for things using the wallet?

I wanted to post a message on the FFXIV Lodestone boards, but I needed to activate my account first, and I didn't want to do that until I am completely sure about how the Steam variation will work.

To be able to play with the Steam Wallet you'd have to start a brand new account that isn't legacy. It's a feature of steam based PC accounts only.

Otherwise you just need to load the demo and play with your legacy account, or grab the full version when it's on sale and use that. You will need to purchase a retail copy of Heavensward to add the expansion however, Steam's will not work.

So far as I know only steam accounts can use wallet and etc.

I don't know if there is any way to activate a legacy account as a steam account but I doubt it.

Your best bet would be contacting SE somehow and asking if they can help you.
