tips for a beginner healer?
I just picked up a healer with the astrologian two days ago and never ever became the healer class until now because I mostly played summoner, paladin, and red mage. it sort of feels a little overwhelming, especially with the types of heal spells so far at level 30 and im not sure how to use diurnal sect too. any tips or tricks to give a beginner healer a slightly easier time?

Try and Utilize every part of your kit (don't save a move "just for" an single use)

If you see everyone healthy and don't need healing, don't just stand and wait until tank gets a scratch to heal him, deal dps when you have nothing else to do.

Stats and materia don't matter until end-game, as long as your gear is level appropriate for the content you're doing. Once you get to end-game there are a lot of resources of Best In Slot gear and materia melds on Reddit and Aryala's FFXIV Toolkit online. Crit is a good stat to aim for on a healer since it affects both your heal crit and damage spell crit rates.

No one needs to be at 100% at all times, as long as they're above 75% health, they're fine.

You should remap hotkeys for left hand and for tryhards use a macro. The game is easy and made for babies.

using an mmo mouse helps. I kind of want to use a resurrect macro but I read online that it doesnt function well

Raise Macros are among to few acceptable combat macros in the game. Attach a message and a sound effect to it to let the other healer, or the SMN or RDM, who you're about to raise so they don't waste their swiftcast.

cure debuff or detrimental effect on tank first. then attack target .
When your tank HP below 1/3, start to heal with all your skill.
Later, set damage over time of heal skill like wind damage etc to every target.
Repeat this process from beginning.
attack target while your tank or others have good HP status.
Hope you like vodka, comrade, because everyone in this game is rushin.

Though the tanks, dps, and especially you will not have the tools for it, groups will pull as much as possible because they think it's faster that way. (It isn't by the way. Actions per minute determine dungeon speed, not pull size.)

So what you can expect is to have no spare time to do anything but chain-cast your heal on the tank. Use your mana regen when you hit 7000 mana. Ignore everyone in this thread telling you to do dps when you're not busy. You will always be busy healing a tank that pulled too much in dungeons or carrying tunneling idiots in trials/raids.

But yes, when everyone is doing the mechanics really well because you're not grouping with strangers, you should dps as much as possible. FF14 is a game where very role is a dps role.

Best short universal advice for new Healers (at least in my opinion) is that you are a Green DPS.
You are no Healer, you are a DPS who is responsible for Healing too.

It soudns obvious at first but the deeper into the endgame you delve the more important this will be.

About the Diurnal/Nocturnal Sect it's really simply, think of them as "Stances" Diurnal Sect is the "Healing over Time Stance" and Nocturnal is the "Shielding Stance".
If you use "Aspected" Spells, they will apply the Stance's Effects with it which is Healing over Time for Diurnal and Shield for Nocturnal. ( They also stack with each other but you can't apply multiple effects of the same Name )

If you have more questions and you feel like you are lost with something, you can find all kinds of answers and helpful people here https://thebalanceffxiv.com/ .
