Second job?

When can I get a second job and do I level that job like you would for example a new character?
Or can I get a second job like in WoW, you just pay for a second specc and you're good to go?

you can get a second job if I remember good after unlock the airship for travel to the other cities, you need just talk with the master in the difference diciples, and when you unlock you will start in lvl 1, but with your character, you can go back to your normal job in anymoment ( the job and diciples chance just for chance the principal weapon or tool)

you don;t need other character for that

in this game you can have all the jobs you want , remember for unlock the job will ask you one diciple lvl 30 and other in lvl 15 ( the on;y exception is the new job in heavensward that the only thing you need is have one class in lvl 50, and this just job)

The only requirement is to be level 10. Getting access to the airship helps to travel to other cities if the job you want is in another one. What Kitsunal said, talk to the NPC that gives you the starting quest. Then just change weapons to change jobs. It's that easy.

In FFXIV you are allowed to switch classes at any time outside of combat or instanced dungeons/raids/guildheists.

In order to unlock additional classes you need to finish your level 10 class quest at your class guild (meaning you will need to finish your level 1 and 5 class quest as well).

In order to unlock your Job quest at level 30, you will need to level a supporting class up to level 15. Each job has a different supporting class (for example: To unlock Dragoon you will have to be a level 30 Lancer and a level 15 Marauder)

To unlock additional classes, you will need to go to a new class guild and speak to the Guild Receptionist whom will have a quest marker above their heads.

Once you complete the level 15 Main Scenerio quest you will have access to the additional two cities where the rest of the classes are. The location of each class guid is as follows:

Limsa Lominsa:
- Marauder
- Arcanist
- Rogue

Ul'dah
- Pugilist
- Gladiator
- Thaumaturge

Gridania
- Archer
- Lancer
- Conjurer

If you for example take fishing, you have to level it up ^^

Also there are three advanced jobs from the expansion with hefty requirements: Level 50 and complete the Main Story Quest of A Realm Reborn up to patch 2.55. These will start at lvl 35 instead of lvl 1 like other classes and has no required based class, and all start in the new expansion city Ishgard. And of course require expansion.
