FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Fantasia Potions
I understand how these work and such. One thing that does bother me a bit though... Why is it I have to use one if I wish to change my character's skin color? This is probably where I give a point to WoW, cause at least there they let you do full customization, aside from race and gender. You can change your facial structure, your skin/fur color, everything else about your character, just by going to a barbershop and not having to use a valuable resource.

But here, I have to use a Fantasia potion if I want to change my skin tone in game?

i just wanna make my Miqo'te have ebony skin with white hair. She's currently just standard pale skin with blonde hair. I did do the merchant's quest in Ul'doh for the potion from them, but that's about it
Eh... whatever. i used the potion i had, and i'm liking the visual change i did.
So, the barber is for things that a barber would actually be able to change. Fantasia is a magical potion that makes magical changes -- changing your skin color is a magical change, at least in Eorzea. That is the actual reason; I am not endorsing or condemning it, just explaining.

You will get one for free somewhere in Ul'dah at around level 15? There's also another free one for finishing ARR.

And then there are Au ra's limbal rings...

well, i probably won't use the one from finishing ARR. i used the one in Ul'dah to change my Miqo'te's skin color, and i'm thoroughly enjoying the light ebony skintone i picked. not too overbearing, but definitely enough so it's not just her having a "tan". The server i'm on, other Miqo'tes i run into, i see like one person with a dark skinned Miqo'te for every like 20 or 30 fair skinned ones.

now that there's a timer on it (they allow you to make changes for an hour after taking the potion), I definitely recommend holding onto it. There's a part later in the game that has a place that only Lalas can access, everybody else is too big to get in the door. You can fantasia, go check it out, then revert your appearance and go back to how you were. =)

You'll know it when you get there, so you don't need to hear anything that might spoil you. Just know you're saving it for A Thing That Will Be Obvious.

Did you know that Aesthetician can change the colour of Au'Ra limbal rings and can make them glow/stop glowing? That's some powerful barbery. Just saying.

Square are pathetic they are abusing this as nearly every major MMO out there allows this as a standard in game currency, even WoW.
