How do you craft expert recipes as Culinarian?
I'm decked out in White Scrip gear, which is as high as I can go, but my Craftsmanship and Control are still too low to perform Expert level cooking. I looked into Resplendent Tools but I *also* can't make any of that stuff to even get a better frying pan. What gives? What am I supposed to do to squeeze out more stats? I need over 100 more points in Control so I can't just rely on crafting food buffs to boost me.

You might not like how crafting works in FF14. I mean, like... To explain, crafting works very differently than every other classes. If you want to do expert crafting, you will NEED to do pentameld of your crafting gears. In short, you will need a set of 5 bis materia gears. x.x

I am in full white scrip gear too and even with food, I couldn't start crafting many of the expert gears. They made crafting very tight on requirement, probably to keep crafting alive and meaningful. The only way to craft the stuff is to pentameld or ask someone who can.

Do you need other crafting classes alongside Culinarian to do pentamelding? Can pentamelded gear even be traded and/or sold on the market board?

The scrip gear is "catch-up" gear like tomestone gear or cryptlurker gear
But if cryptlurker can be upgraded to BIS level - crafter gear cannot be

So the only way is to craft gear with slots

What iLvl would the gear be? Everything that I saw on the MB was only 490 and had drastically lower stats than White Scrip gear, certainly too low for Materia to make up the difference.

For crafters and gatherers iLVL does not give any benefit. Only stats do. And a slightly lower ilvl with pentameld gives much more stats than 500ilvl that cannot be pentamelded

I want to craft, so I get crafting gear, but the crafting gear I have isn't good enough to craft, so I need to craft new gear so I can craft, but I can't craft that new crafting gear because I don't have the new crafting gear, so I have to buy new crafting gear, to craft the new crafting gear which I just bought.

Austrian Economics everyone.

You can craft the gear, you just can't guarantee it will come out HQ with a macro. If you properly use the various status modifiers and manually craft you might be able to, I haven't tried it to say, although I've been able to craft all of the stuff for the tool quests with "just" white scrip gear. Is it the ideal, min/max lazy way to do things? Not at all, but you can get things done.

This is a link to my character on The Lodestone: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/16982105/

With the exception of the frypan, which is created using expert crafting this is the gear you will need (including Materia) in order to stand a chance at getting expert crafting to work.

This late in the expansion you should be able to buy the gear off an Omnicrafter for about 1 million Gil.
HOWEVER... the Materia is a totally different story.

Materia can be farmed each week with the customised deliveries, but that's a slow process.
If you're impatient and want to get it done now than you're going to be dropping somewhere in the ballpark of 100 million Gil or so.

The last 3 materia slots have a 10% / 7% / 5% chance of being applied to gear, and it's destroyed on failure, hence the absurd pricetag.

If you want to know anything more, or have specific questions feel free to DM me and I'll see what I can do.

Meteria prices have crashed since we are close to the end of the expansion. Therefore a full set of gear is about 1 million, and pentamelding it takes around 3 - 5 million in materia depending on your luck. And everything but the tool can be reused for all crafter classes.

But expert crafting really isn't worth it. It is only needed for getting the crafter artifacts, and they will be cosmetic only in a couple of weeks. And be much easier to get to boot.

You can get mog tickets and skybuilder scrips far faster with just doing the level 80 White Ishgard crafts, with the bonus that they can be done by macro.

Level 80 white -
Time: 30 second macro
Scrip: 63
Mog ticket: One every 2.5 minutes
Ishgard points: 30

Level 80 expert -
Time: 3.5 minute average, varies. Requires complete attention.
Scrip: 95
Mog ticket: One every 20 minutes or so
Ishgard points: 175 - 875. I average 500 or so. Getting the full 875 is tough.

I can get mog tickets and scrip 5x faster doing the white crafts with far less headache.
