Just renewed subscription... massive server queues!!!
What a mistake renewing my subscription was hahaa! Never realised it would be impossible to get into the game. Wonder what caused it to become so busy.

I presume they will give us some extra game time or something? The queue times seem massive!!

I only paid for the game so I could see the in-game christmas tree hahaa

Even with them trying to get more servers, there's just too much in the supply chain to get any in a reasonable time.

A sane person could've invested in more infrastructure to support a growing population.
This isn't a new problem either since every previous expac has had increasing problems with the same areas of infrastructure.
It wasn't necessary when it was still early enough to secure servers prior to launch.

To scale up early enough with covid, and with enough capacity for the extreme growth ffxiv got in that timeframe....
Someone woukd have to have precognition, or be economically insane.

I used to think the same, until they literally stopped selling the game.

Things have to be dire in order for them to voluntarily stop selling their most profitable FF title.

Greed isn't the issue here. Mismanagement though? Maybe.

You are exactly correct in regards to the point of greed. Greed is not the issue here...However...

The congestion/long queue times is not the result of mismanagement. There are two factors at play here. The first being the global shortage of semiconductors. This shortage is making it extremely difficult for SE to purchase new hardware to alleviate the congestion.

Yoshida explains the semiconductor issue (among other details) in this post:

https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/4269a50a754b4f83a99b49341324153ef4405c13

The second factor is....WoW. Recently, there has been a huge spike in FFXIV population because of a mass influx of WoW players. WoW players have been jumping ship due to allegations of sexual misconduct within Blizzard's ranks. According to several reports, there are also issues within the game....such as new content, reward mechanics, and overall balance. These variables have resulted in a mass exodus of players.

With these factors in mind, there was no way that SE could have foreseen any of these problems barreling down on them before, during, and after launch. From what I can tell, SE is doing everything in their power to mitigate these issues. They've even paid exorbitant prices just to secure their position in line to receive new hardware.....and the line is very long.

The semiconductor details can be found here:

https://www.theverge.com/2021/12/7/22822825/final-fantasy-xiv-14-endwalker-global-chip-shortage-server-queue

While they wait for said hardware, they've been staging optimized code, maximizing logins, and now....putting temporary holds on Endwalker purchases, new player creations, and access for free trial members.

All of this effort has been put forth by SE so that established players like us can get logged into the game.

All-in-all, I think SE has done everything (and is still doing everything) in their power to keep this game online and they have been extremely transparent in the process. The transparency, working with the code, the halt of sales and new memberships shows the enormous amount of integrity SE has as a games developer...and as a company overall.

And this right here is exactly the right info. Thank you.

if you're playing on the NA servers login early mornings. and for me personally, the game seemed a bit better today, I login in at 1:00 today (which is usually busy) and there was only 34 people in the queue. And what caused the servers to be busy is WOW players coming over to FFXIV and some other things.

They didn't predict that the WoW community would collapse so hard many of which would refugee in FF14. Thanks to influencers and just general community hopping to FF14. You really can't predict that and by that time it was too late. Parts shortage in full swing long before then and as much as Square Enix has money there are bigger companies with even more money that want the parts.

Just don`t renew next time. This is the only way to force them to listen to players. The more players will stop to pay the faster they will find a solution. For example F2P.

Ye, we're full, go away for now, come back for 6.3 or sth

Although queues are slashed in half on EU now, only 3k instead of 6k you used to get, now actually possible to queue at 8PM and login at 11PM Pog
