FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

Monthly subscription required to play.
Monthly subscription required to play? Does that mean that I buy the game just so I can pay a monthly fee for being able to play the damn game?

Can someone clarify this to me? Because as I understand it, it is ridiculous. Worst business model I've ever seen. :steamfacepalm:

<100$ pay once game = 20-200 hours of play.

<15$ per month MMO = PLAY UNTIL THE SERVER SHUTS DOWN / WORLD ENDS

MMO's are mathematically and financially superior.

Not really, I've had numerous more hours in single player RPGs because the gameplay and stories are superior. Have fun killing 8 wolves to collect ears to get minimal XP and worthless gear. The quest after that is collect 8 pieces of fungi from some mushroom mobs, same story with the XP and garbage gear. Final Fantasy 6 destroys this game in almost all categories.

Playing a sub-based MMO is like paying to run on a treadmill endlessly, while receiving no physical benefit somehow. And a digital bottle of water to rehydrate is $20.

Clearly they're not that fun if you're spending more time on here than actually playing them.

Campy, seriously, you're trolling and it's pretty damn clear. The moment you need to accuse people of being secret SE employees you're already losing the battle.

And since the game is on Steam we can browse the forum with ease while in game. Try a bit harder. I'm sorry but you haven't spent 3000 hours in a single RPG.

Clearly you may be a SE PR guy that polices this forum to ensure people that this business model of this MMO is not a rip off. WHICH it is, clearly.

However, judging by the the poo flinging language you sometimes use I would hope they wouldn't employ you.

Clearly you spend more time in here than me, yet you claim this game is so awesome. So why are you always here? Ready to reply within minutes? Clearly you must not enjoy FFXIV that much is you're here all the time..

Dual monitors. I'm in a weekly D&D campaign right now and no one's noticed what I'm doing.

Yes you do need to purchase the game, and subscription....but thats the way the cookie crumbles, WoW / Eve online does this too, i was very anti sub and spent the last year trying out lots of buy-2-play / f2p games

Star trek online
SWTOR
DC universe online
LOTRo
GW2
Aion
Archage
Tera
Rift
Defiance
ESO
Wildstar

most of these were just about playable as a f2p [Star Trek / Rift are in my opinion the best f2p models as it didnt feel too restricted] the worsed was SWTOR / LOTRo / DCUO

GW2 / ESO I purchased before it went f2p and they were great, GW2 was a fantastic game and i still pop back to it now and then.

Alot of these though were rather limiting, and i felt like i was being kind of forced into subbing or buy there premium / elite / fancy pants monthly menberships

When i tried FF14 i knew it was a sub game and id have to buy the game / heavensward if i wanted to progress further buuuuuut i also used the amazing internet to try find any cheap deals.....i basically brought FF14 AAR / Heavensward and a 60 day time card for like £26 which meant i would have 90 days worth of a top game for less than my usual FPS i was always mad on [yes i was one of those battlefield COD fan boys that would buy the game, seasons passes plus in recent years the battlepacks / skins etc] Also buying the game/ gametime/ exp you get given freebies/thank you items.....annnnd i used a friends RAF code to get things that would help me level....all for free.

MMOs use large open persistent worlds containing thousands of players at once per server. The games you listed do not, it's just basic account data.

Ok what about all the other MMOs that do not ask for fees? O.o

There kinda ♥♥♥♥? Microtransaction models for pay to win mostly and are pretty much unable to keep up with the release of regular fresh content. They tend not to get expansions but more commonly a series of smaller DLC that cost more than a singular expansion ever would when added up.

Edit : Having a wee think. Can anyone name a sub-less free MMO that is out there that does not have a cash shop or micro transactions?

No, because sub-less "free" MMOs still have to find a way to actually maintain their servers. Which people keep seeming to forget is needed. But then, people around here clearly never will be managing a game company. <_<; At least not for long.

You do need to purchase the game and It Is Indeed monthly subscription, but new accounts get 30 days free (You could take It as the cost of buying the game If your first months subscription) But the amount of end game content Final Fantasy offers Is very much worth the monthly cost I'd strongly recommend buying Heavensward a little after you hit 50 as It's a huge add-on to the game and provides endless more hours of gameplay and continues on the very much fun, Interesting and solid story-line but also boosts the max level from 50 to 60.
Gabby 29. Dez. 2015 um 9:29
You also get 30 days added per platform. So if you bought PC or Steam, and then a PS3 copy, then a PS4 copy, you'd get 90 days of game time.
You're putting a 30 dollar down payment on it. You're still getting exactly what you paid for, two months for 15 a pop, it's just a two month contract I guess.
Taka 29. Dez. 2015 um 16:56
Yes, it is a horrible business model, It's so horrible that WoW and FFXI have been with a sub model for over a decade and they are still played today. So horrible. 15 a month - one less movie you can watch a month, or one less big mac meal at Mcdonalds. People dont cry about netflix, why cry about this?

Also, I only pay 9.99 a month.

Beause their company produced the second most profitable MMO in the world.

More like, they produced the second biggest rip-off in the gaming world. Nah I don't think it's that bad. Have you seen Eve? Oh my..
I would not really call FFXIV a ripoff.

It decreases your stats for leveling crafts and gathering classes? More like it helps boost your stats quickly.

it decreases stats for all classes. 10 levels in on my gatherers I had to choose 20 more exp per gather, or 11 precision which gives me a whole 10% extra chance of an HQ item. If I'm leveling the long way trough gathering and not doing leve quests, then it's actually better to have extra HQ chance as an HQ item is around 600 exp and not 200 exp like your regular item. So yes, it's useless after level 10-11.

As for the mount comment, there's what? 2 mounts for sale in total? And none that I would like to own, having in mind that my favorite non flying ones are the gobbue and ponies and my favorite flying one is the pegasus.

So having read this argument/thread I am still not sure what the cost per month is. I have been playing subscription based MMO's since the phenomena began way back when Ultima Online began and there were others as well like Meridian 59, etc.

The MMO that can survive through subscriptions is gernerally far superior to the Free to Play MMO's because they actually have enough cash to make decent content updates.

ESO began as a subscription based MMO, however the developer Zenimax was too stupid to make it a good MMO where you can play all the content with your friends and instead made most of the content solo content which basically defeats the entire purpose of playing an MMO thus it ran out of customers willing to pay them $15 a month and had to go Free to Play.

Don't get me wrong there are some decent F2P MMO's like Star Trek Online and others...

Anyway enough of that rant...can someone who plays Final Fantasy XIV please post to this thread the cost per month to play it so I can decide if I want to play it.

Thanks in advance for any replies..
