High ping on OCE
I'm a player on the OCE servers who lives in New Zealand for the longest time i was getting an average of 180ms well playing on sophia when just a few days ago my ping starts to jump to 300ms and has stayed that way for a few days. I've tried looking into a reason for it but i cant find anything does anyone know anyway to help?

Alright. So, NZ player, what Datacenter are you trying to connect to?
Oceana I hope? Anything else and you're asking for lag.

my home server is Materia datacenter, my ISP is Starlink, I use the launcher instead of Steam. All my friends that play in AUS all have 70ms-80ms and we have no idea why. Every other game I play I have around 70ms but FF14 is the only game where my ping is that high.

So, it may or may not, be the SQEX servers.
Your provider is Starlink, as you said.

Have you:
1) Rebooted your router lately?

2) Checked your download speed on a speed site?
(Both of these 1 & 2 are related if your router was patched, but not rebooted to apply it.)

3) Any big programs running in the background doing metered downloads, or downloads in the background? (Since you said you were using the WIN version and not Steam)

4) Is the virus Scanner running scans while you are playing FFXIV? McAfee is a PITA, but Norton won't bother you while you are playing games, unless it finds an intrusion, etc.

1) I've restarted my router a few times and the last was 3 hours ago

2) my download speed is fine and is stable

3) only FF and discord (which I have turned off and its still the same)

4) I only have Windows Defender

So... this is a troubling.
It makes me think it is a router issue then a game server issue.
Especially if, as you said, your friends in Aus are getting 70ish and your getting nearly double that.

Well that is a bad idea from the start.
You need something more than Windows Defender.
Win Def will not save you against advanced threats probing your network.
I would suggest Norton. McAfee is a PITA to use and doesn't like games for some reason.

I don't know whats going on with it, I can play any other game at 80ms but its only ff14 that its so high and its only been in the past week where its jumped to 300ms. Which is funny because i made an alt on NA server and for some reason i'm getting 150ms on them

I wouldn't suggest to get one of those third party anti viruses, they have been known to be essentially spyware for about 20 years now.

Fixed it

My ISP was routing though 2degrees and for some reason it was messing up so just by using a vpn its made everything better.

Windows Defender is better than the majority of third-party antivirus programs in 2024, it's not a bad choice; unless you have specific reason to go with something else, I highly recommend sticking with just Windows Defender.

Unlike the OS itself, the virus protection is top notch. Just make sure you let it keep itself up to date without your intervention.

If you REALLY have an issue with Defender, I would *only* recommend using Trend Micro's platform. The bulk of the rest of them are garbage, spyware, or garbage spyware that's been lit on fire. The rest of the good ones are pretty much out of a reasonable consumer budget, or more complicated than 'set and forget'.
