FFXIV -VS- SWTOR
Which MMO do you think is the better in terms of story, gameplay and content? Star Wars: The Old Republic gives us the ability to shape the story as we want. And there are many contents. I wonder how FFXIV is but i just wanna focus only one MMORPG. Which one do you think better and why?

SWTOR 1-50 is the best storytelling you will find in an MMO. Everything else in it is hot garbage unless it appeals to you specifically. Gameplay is in a very, very sad state. The game isn't dead and abandoned yet, but it's getting about an hour's worth of just...sad....new content a year and limping along by adding costumes from the new shows/movies to their cash shop. That said, if you haven't got Legendary yet, do that. It's worth your time. It's worth your time, and it's also worth subscribing while you do it (the F2P restrictions are painful. whoever thought to gate RUNNING SPEED behind a paywall was an evil genius).

FFXIV has a free trial. Just download that and play it up to 70 and if it doesn't make you want to gouge your eyes out before level 51 you're in it to win it and are safe to buy and subscribe.

I am mostly care about Storytelling. I should go for SWTOR then. Thanks.

Yeah, if you haven't done all of the origins 1-50 you should. Everyone should. It's worth all of everything else, peak Bioware, blah blah. I also suggest taking the Jedi Knight origin all the way through the expansions and stuff (if you're going to do them) -- JK storyline is as close as we'll ever get to KOTOR 3, and you get good homage alllllllll the way through.

Base The Old Republic with its class stories is better than anything in XIV, story-wise. However, everything after class stories in The Old Republic is garbage.

SWTOR base has 8 classes each with their own quest line (Believe after base they all follow the same story). Jedi Knight story is basically the continuation of the KOTOR 1,2 games and Revan book.

They are both free to some extent so you can always give both a little poke and see which you prefer.

What Sunny said, 1-50 content in swtor is INCREDIBLE. The other stories have some decent moments as well but its surrounded by A LOT of slop. I would suggest subscribing to the game for just 1 month as that unlocks all of the expansion for you as well as gives you some QoL stuff.

The vaunted, 'amazing' story content of ToR is everything you can get out of a Youtube video. I'm not putting FFXIV on a pedestal but this is what you can look forward to for a good stretch of ToR:

* watered down diet KOTOR approach to story telling
* lifeless, soulless character expressions (even by asian mmo standards)
* repetitive, monotone voice acting for 90% of the NPCs

Unless you like The Old Republic setting, or KOTOR, or Star Wars, I just wouldn't even bother. There's nothing else to grip.

I don't know at what point it 'gets better' but it's one of the worst games I've ever played, and I've tried every class story. The Sith and Jedi ones are interesting for a short while, oh and maybe the Imperial Agent, but in many ways it's more diabolical and tedious than a good chunk of FFXIVs MSQ and that's saying something.

It’s better than the most recent ffxiv expansion, at least. As a Star Wars fan, I found it to be great and, in my opinion, more engaging than the latest additions to the film franchise. However, I wouldn't consider it worthy of much praise or mention until you reach the Knights of the Fallen Empire storyline, which is where the game really shines. What makes it stand out is the intriguing antagonist, who elevates the entire experience.

What I see in SWTOR. The story and characters of the game are so well crafted that it creates a strong bond between the players and the characters. This makes it impossible to break away from the game's universe. A part of you always remains in SWTOR.

(Disclaimer: been 2 years since I played it) Gameplay wise, SWTOR is more or less older wow(BC, maybe WotLK) with the sci-fi skin. Raid scale content is all more or less relevant as they bumped them to new level cap. Raids have some mechanics that deviate from the "play your class and dodge things correctly", which I personally liked, but is not for everyone. (Tank on a platform playing minesweeper so the rest of the group can travel safely across the field, or half the team doing Towers of Hanoi to pour molten steel on the boss to make it attackable, for example.)

SWTOR original 1-50 stories are worth playing through. FFXIV is the better overall supported game though.

The story in SWTOR is overall much more mature and enjoyable than the one in FFXIV .. There's just way more gameplay, decision making, and characters atleast have a somewhat semblance to real people. Like its extremely close to Mass Effect in Quality

The biggest problem about the story in FFXIV is that its so Static and rigid. There's pretty much zero decision making and you dont have any sorts of relationship to the characters becasue they are all reading from a script and they dont deviate from it. The Story Gameplay is almost on par with a visual novel, its extremely barebones and Linear with No kinds of Emergent Gameplay at all

FFXIV has a extremely long "Honeymoon" but once its over you'l realize how limited the game really is.

What's good about FF is the Social Space and the Emergent Gameplay oppourtunity's surrounding the social spaces.

Also did i mention that it relies extremely on Anime and Power Of Friendship..

Forgot to mention that i have about 4000 hours in the game and have finished the story 4 times

swtor is worse by default for being the killing blow to star wars galaxies.

SWG was going to shut down regardless of swtor existing or not. It was a garbage game that barely had a few hundred people playing it.

The SWTOR equivalent of ARR is really good. sadly the game is kinda dead.
