Sage as a first-time healer class? Good or bad idea?
I've exclusively played as a tank for the last 4 storylines, and I'm up to Shadowbringers. I swapped from an LVL 70 Paladin to the Gunbreaker class and have played that way ever since. I wanted to try out Sage to further my experience and be a better player.

I keep forgetting that classes that start at higher levels get an immense hotbar vomit of buttons, and I'm not sure where to place all of my level 70 skills on a controller hotbar. Would anyone have advice if someone here played the class on a controller?

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to test out the class in a dungeon or hall of novices, but I'll do that when I get back tomorrow. Are there any other beginner healer tips to remember before I head on the battlefield? Please and thank you.

I only have a bit of experience with controller (I use it for fishing), but buttons I use often and would probably put on right side would be dosis, diagnosis, prognosis and eukrasia. Left side the 4 choles: taurachole, ixochole, etc.

2nd crossbar would be whatever cooldowns I use the most along with phlegma, dyskrasia and toxicon on the right side.

3rd crossbar would have kardia and whatever else.

Although you could probably put all attacks on the same set of buttons, with healing on a separate bar along with eukrasia.

I don't think SGE is a bad first healer, especially if you have a fair amount of tanking experience. It's kind of like a tank in that it's pretty straight forward once you figure out which of its cooldowns synergise nicely and how you can spread out your cooldowns to avoid burning everything too quickly and having to fall back on your (incredibly weak) GCD heals.

It has a bit of a steeper learning curve than WHM because you need to be more proactive and can't just throw out huge heals after the fact but it can also be more fun to play.

I'd argue sage is easier than white mage since you don't ever need to stop dps and have more free ogcd tools in your kit.

All of the Healers are of the same difficulty now. So, just pick your flavour.

Sage is pretty straight forward once you've read all your skills and know what's what, so picking it as a first time healer is a good choice. Just keep in mind, planning ahead is key with a shield healer (Sage, Scholar). You prevent damage rather than pick up the pieces after a big hit like regen healers (White Mage, Astrologian). Especially on lower levels, you can screw yourself over easily when you let the group drop, because the job is not really made for playing catch-up.
If you want something more reactive with raw healing output instead, go for Conjurer/White Mage. Sadly, that one tends to be an absolute snorefest until you reach the mid 50s and above, even though, Holy (level 45 aoe nuke with stun) makes it a bit more fun already

i mean it is a bad ideia for taking a role on a high level on the other hand you can just go on a palace of the dead and watch how your class progress to see what you should do

Palace of the Dead is a great tutorial to learn a class mechanics ironically

Honestly, Sage as a first time healer role is kind of a bad idea if you ask me. I'm not gonna say it's overly complex(Though all the buttons do sort of meld together for me, I mean it's a bunch of blue), but it's incredibly high level to start. If you don't want to start at the bare basics, AST would be a better choice as it starts only at level 30, meaning you'd still be in ARR territory and thus have a bit more wiggle room instead of, "Welcome to Shadowbringers, hope you know your buttons and how to do your role!"
