so you hate wuk lamat...?
the character we are playing as is a mentor who guides wuk lamat on a journey of self discovery, she learns everything because she was confined in her castle and didnt know anything outside except for a few events she tended to... and the street she ran through,

she learns how people think and what they do for a living, how each race is diffrent and she grows with each zone she enters, she encounters devastation and loss to a point she never have experienced in her own life time, how do you think she would react if not be sad and cry about it... she goes through alot of development and becomes a great character throughout...

if only people took the time to be open minded and understood what the story although cliche was about and how they tried to show it, im not saying its unique at all, its been done a thousand times, but it still works well here.

this is MY 2 cents. I Have an absolut blast in this expansion and im only now getting to the ''good part as some may say it'' above leve 96 questline,

i think its not so much that everyone "hates" her. the problem is that she got WAY TOO MUCH screentime. i would´ve liked it more to see more about krile etc.

but wuk lamat takes so much screentime that she gets just annoying after a while.
me on my own dont hate nor dislike/like her but i agree with what everyone says aka "too much screentime for her" o-o.

The Character is great and nice hell even cute sometimes.

But holy hell they gone overboard with her outright being in your face through the ENTIRE expansion and because of this most other characters barely get any screentime compared to her.

As much as i like her character im just bored and tired seeing her face at this point...

Accent is inconsistent and keeps throwing me out of the story

You can easily compare accents in the youtube comparison videos and see that the English one stands out for poor quality / experience reasons

Nothing to do with the other stuff mentioned

Other characters like Zero in the Post Endwalker MSQ were 10/10 voice actors you could listen to all day

No, it's not working here. And most of the time this is not the problem of wuk lamat's character. It's the whole structure which is done very poorly. First of all, we were told that this expansion will be about adventure with friends and competition in the rite of succession. I don't know about you, but I do not consider babysiting an adventure, in any way. And the competition? Basically nonexistent. I mean come on, we had like 3 feats out of 7 where we actually compete with each other. The real problem is that the story is so centered around wuk lamat, that all other parts suffer because of this. We have very little development for any other promise or any side character whatsoever. Did you know that Zarool ja ja has like 25 lines of dialog across ALL addon? And this is supposed to be an important character. And this is against the fact that wuk has so many lines which are so simple and repetitive you can actually categorize them. I honestly do not know why she needs some much screen time. She is basic 12+ anime character with like full package of cliche, such characters never require a lot of development, because their foundation is very basic and flat

then you should never learn a foreign language because your accent would be all over the place aswell while you try to speak the language properly. x3
I think she's a little cringe sometimes and comes off as a Shonen protagonist so, while she's not my favourite character (but far from the bottom of my list too), I don't mind having her around.

If anything I think they leaned a little too much into the anime vibe storytelling this expansion but hey, can't please everyone.

Huh?

You realise the voice actors are different in each version of the game right?

You can listen to them all in comparison on youtube right now

It's more common to find bilingual+ people on steam then anyone who's only able to communicate in just one language

So people understand and get how languages work and accents are conveyed in speech

Wuk Lamat is a potential heir to the throne of what we can gather is equivalent to the entirety of central america. An individual of that importance would have learnt a lot of what is described early on in the msq through academics and her father's teachers. Instead we are treated to a person who apparently has had pretty much no instruction or lessons as one would expect of any future monarch.

There is no self discovery. Wuk Lamat is the same person she is at the end as she was from the beginning. Her entire persona can be boiled down to "i am the future dawnservant and i want peace" from start to finish, with little in the way of the story actually confronting her about such a naive worldview. There are no traumatic moments that causes her to really question what such a worldview entails nor how it will affect the country to any depth. To be blunt: She is a walking shonen trope with all the typical stereotypes that entails.

And concerning loss, the writers did her dirty. during an event about 2/3 of the way through, things happen (some can guess easily enough). What you would generally expect is a person to really and truly mourn the loss. instead, after a small and flat cutscene, we are greeted to Wuk Lamat acting completeyl normal as if one of the pillars of her life wasn't just pulled away from beneath her feet.

Let's compare that to Lyna. A minor character in Shb but one that has resonated with the community for her excellent writing and performance. A lost girl found by the exarch. she treats him as a father and wants nothing more than to see his dream come true. We see little of her but each moment we do is impactful and resonates with the player. We see her feel triumphant at the small victories and overwhelmingly sad when we fail. We can bond with this character because she is multilayered with a depth of life despite the screentime. Look at this video and tell me does Wuk Lamat have any level of expression or emotion even coming close to it? I think not.

alot of ppl said that the good part is the second half,
Sayo Jul 6, 2024 @ 5:27am
We don't really do any "mentoring" though. Mentors are meant to help and train someone to better themselves. We just kind of nod and go along with whatever she wants, her ideas are never challenged, and any time she faces an obstacle we're there to clear it up for her. The one time we did sit on the sidelines to watch her fight, she gets a big anime-esque powerup and is able to beat the guy she wasn't even able to touch before without any type of training between then and now.

i dont care what ppl think, i just pointed out what i heard, because i loved every moment of the expansion so far, pacing compared to ARR is insane even shadowbringers had very very slow moments , same for endwalkers, SHB had some shocking moments and cool reveals but overall it had terrible pacing, same for Endwalker but they had a great plot and some insane twists and turns that left me speechleft, this is just a great overall side story that feels fun
