The character is doing cringe things at times.
But i dont know how a different VA could have made Wuk lamat any different compared to the VA we have now.
That said, I think a lot of the people who hate the VA are still just being outright transphobic and just trying not to admit it. Not all of them, but many more than are willing to say it.
how many exactly? seems a bit easy to throw this around and the 'gaming journos' were quick to respond on this basis as well. Saying 'its not all but its a lot' is a cheap move with no actual foundation.
i personally don't think the VA is particularly exceptional but what is way worse is the lines she has been given and the lack of range in her character and I think this is more plausible as a reason for the dislike than oh no its transphobia.
I am probably transactivistphobic though, I will give you that :) many of them, but not all, argue (see what i did there) from an emotional blackmail pov.
There's a comment somewhere around there where it's tricky to discuss Wuk Lamat's VA's performance because there are a lot of bad faith actors and generally sh!tty people who conflate her performance with the fact she's trans, and just as many people dismissing critiques because, well, anyone who doesn't love her performance top to bottom is obviously a phobe.
Personally, I think considering Wuk Lamat had BY FAR the most voiced lines in the entire expansion, with Sphene being second or third place and having *half* Wuk Lamat's VA, she killed most of them. Pound for pound, a good job.
But when the VA falls flat, good lord does she fall flat. The end fight's cutscene?
"SPHENE, LISTEN TO ME!"
That took me right out of the entire experience. I've heard people say it's the VA director's fault, the VA herself's fault, God's fault, my dog's fault, but whatever copium you choose to imbibe, that line *sucked.*
I also cannot think of another character whose performance is as mixed as Wuk Lamat's. Bakool Ja Ja kills every scene, Koana nails it, Gulool Ja Ja feels believable, and even Gulool Ja the child lizard has some really heart-wrenching performances. Otis, Sphene... the list goes on. I can't think of a single *bad* moment for any of their (English) VAs, but Wuk Lamat has quite a few.
A mixed performance, all told, but I hope to see the character and her VA appear in the story again.
It's wonderful someone like Sena Bryer can fit a role like that and her voice works pretty well for the character but wow the performance in that moment took some wind out of the sails of the fight's intensity.
It's a shame too because with that being a defining moment towards the end of the base expansion it's sticks with you a lot more easily.
I hope she can manage to filter out the people that just don't like the actor because ideologies and actually keep an ear open for criticism about the actual acting/performance.
Guess we'll see how that'll go, the expansion's cycle has barely begun.
They mainly watch subbed anime to, despite not understanding Japanese, so they basically just try to interpret emotion through volume. LOUD = EMOTIONZ!! I love anime, but anime fans are some of the dumbest people on the planet.
Lmao, I see the mainsub hasn't changed even in all these years.
I miss when people would recognize differing opinions without assuming they were just repeating other people.
