Are "they" in the room with us right now?
Topper only leaves out the important lore tidbit that because some tribes engaged in proto-creation magick, i.e. summoning magick, that the average Eorzean was fearful of ALL of them. Moreover, because these tribes exchanged little but violence with the nation-states of Aldenard, Illsbard, and Othard, people did not fully grasp their level of intelligence, analogous to Garlean indoctrination towards Eorzeans. It was the cooperation/alliance spurred by greater threats that facilitated this change in perspective, and for the umpteenth time, this "theme" was present in FFXIV as early as Heavensward.
"Beast," like "savage," was a pejorative within the FFXIV universe (from ARR to SB), and the UI nomenclature changed after they were assimilated (so with 6.1), to reflect this development in MSQ as early as Stormblood.
I could quote my Encyclopedia Eorzea, because this convention died years ago, long before the UI adjustments that came with post-EW content.
