It sounds like your problem with the new character/VA is that she doesn't scream until her voice breaks like a typical shonen protag to show emotion... If you just don't like the character that's valid, but it's really no better or worse done than most prominent characters in this game.
Honestly, I'm kind of buying the idea that this is mostly just typical Steam lashing out at anything they think is "woke." The new character is kind of tomboyish and I guess voiced by a trans person, so here we are again.
EW isn't bad at all, but it has some pacing issues here and there and valid criticisms just like any xpac and any game, and by the time it was released there was a lot of drama about people thinking char H or M or V were "bad" because they could not grasp their intentions or
this or that being @sspulls and jumping the shark(which FF game doesn't jump the shark in a cowboy hat while playing a guitar solo while a vulcan explodes in the background?), this happens every time an xpac hits, even SHB was not devoid of it, people complained a lot about the minutiae of it, Ranjit, Ryne as the Oracle, Alisaie not saving Tesleen because some bs reason, Vaulthry being Trump(he never was, he is Owzer from ff6) so on and on, men even Emet was the target of criticism as he was a "boomer" to some.
This is not a political thing per se, is just that any game at release will always have people complaining and it becomes progressively harder to separate the valid criticism from troll attempts as "both" sides derail any debate more and more into flame wars as you can clearly see happening in this threat.
To quote Chaplin "Man as an individual is a genius. But men in the mass form the headless monster, a great, brutish idiot that goes where prodded."
My honest advice to you is: play the game, enjoy it and see for yourself, you will notice the bad of it, and you will enjoy the good of it, but if you spend too much time in forums of any kind you will always see more of the supposed bad other people "think" than the positives which are drowned in a sea of flames. And most of all: IGNORE all of this usa politics drama, specially if you're not from there.
But hey, if you don't like the VA that's fine. If you can't come up with a coherent reason why you don't like the VA that's also fine. It's your opinion, so it doesn't have to be informed, intelligent or based on anything real.
I'm just saying that whenever Steam turns on a game, and starts giving vague, unintelligible reasons why, it usually boils down to them thinking the game is woke for some dumb reason. This happens on Steam a lot.
If this were a bait thread then you 100% already bit, and hard.
Reality is I just posted a reasonable opinion, so you really just bit without even being baited. That's impressive. ;)
Her VA is not the best, but what can one expect from someone who started with their own dedicated character just now. Did we all forget ARR voice acting. I doubt the scions had the best voices in heavensward. especially the first half.
There were plenty of store moments where it pulled geniune emotion out of me. Hatred, joy, surprise, discomfort.
I am a tad bit more emotional. I am currently the lvl 97 dungeon.
I really want to slit a throat or two.
