game not responding on launch
its crazy that after 5+ years of launching the game after entering my password, the game launches a black screen and stops responding and usually it does it twice in a row, but 5? come on now, fix your crap. even closing out of the game when im done playing causes it to stop responding. have not had a normal launch or a normal game shut down in years. what's the excuse here? reinstalling the game doesnt help, reinstalling steam doesnt help, launching as admin doesnt help. its just bugged out of its mind? and thats ok for some reason? wouldnt be so pissed if this game's customer service didn't condone theft of my mog store purchases. like i thought buying something meant i owned it, not that it was sorta kinda mine but 100% the thieves if they steal it from me.

same issue, the ONLY thing i could find is:

Open launcher, enter user and password BUT dont press play button.
Open task administrator and shut down steam completly.
Then, play, and you can open steam again.

The only issue is that steam doesnt count like you are inside the game, and you have to do this every time you open the game. If someone have found any other and better solution, please tell us.

i tried that but after task manage-shut down, it makes me enter the password again anyway and it launches into a non responsive black screen. this is annoying.

an hour later after using the "restore" thing in the settings and im still not able to get to the main menu of the game. just a black screen that says Not Responding. Love wasting money on this game time and time again! i never learn!

yeah it's pretty nuts jumping through through all these hoops (again) only for it to still not work

I did a windows reinstall and now I am continuously getting error codes. [30419] [19901][22] and others, sometimes the launcher opens and wont progress after login, some other times I get an error 'unable to complete version update'. And a few times I have received the message 'The service account does not have a valid FINAL FANTASY XIV licence for this platform or the subscription has expired' Which is impossible as I purchased it through steam and only 2 days ago purchased new game time.

I would love a fix for this. I tried the fix suggested by Geryx, unfortunately it didn't work for me. And I have tried other posted in forums/reddit/steam etc. Nothing has worked. I have reinstalled steam and the game multiple times. It's also not just a steam error, my other games have installed just fine. So I did check and try to download the FFXIV launcher from SE and that is also giving errors.

Therefore this is a Square Enix issue. I have also taken the time to send a support ticket for this issue with as much detail as possible.

Sad we have to do so much to be able to play.

Yeah the amount of "fixes" ive tried and im still STILL getting the black screen is incredibly stupid. Square Enix support in my experience likes to throw you around like a hot potato between departments because no one knows what to do ever (this was for a different issue than this but I know damn good and well they wont help. i actually went a full circle back to the first department lmao)

and this has been happening for years. youd think with the amount of people having the same issue they'd do something abt it. but nahhh honestly idk why i keep giving these buffoons my money when they really dont deserve it

4 hours later and i still cant get past the black screen! So happy i spent money on a sub...

So far I've tried all the options listed here with no joy. Sign into the mog station without a problem -- click to start the game and spinning icon -- black screen -- game stops. No joy here. Drivers all checked, game redownloaded (over many hours twice today) everything, rebooted the computer more times than I can count, deleted my setup preferences, and even checked to find the config files. Nope.

It's just sad that before this huge update I could play the game without any issues. My guild mate has been able to connect with no issues. He also bought the expansion (I haven't yet -- maybe that's another issue?) and didn't have the connection hiccup.

He also informed me about a weird issue with the Syrcus Tower raid that had total wipes during the Amon phase with the ice not forming to make a barrier so no one survived the curtain call blast. They repaired that issue this morning. So hopefully they'll fix this issue too -- hopefully as this is very discouraging.
I have a question fellas, maybe you already tried it, but have you tried launching it from the actual launcher without steam? I think your account won't be auto logged in, I don't remember how steam works. The reason I ask is that this used to be a problem ALL the time back in the day, so I switched to a different launcher but instead of advertising that launcher I will just suggest to use the launcher instead of steam. (at least to see if it works or not)

sadly you'll likely just have to wait for sq and steam to get their crap together. It used to be like this allllll the time around HSW times. Made me stop playing through steam.

Yes. That’d be ideal if I were to do that I may need to find how to connect the old way — the way we used to.

I was having the same issue myself. After multiple attempts of trying to get past the black screen I realised that it is "Steam (32 bit)" that needs to close inside the task manager before pressing the play button.

I hope this helps others.

its still surprising how many peoples giving SE the fault but at the end comes out that something else causes it or its even caused from their own operating system.

again, only a minority has these issues.
the sad thing is, those which run into said problems are usually the loudest ones.
if every single person which has no issues to start the game would create a topic would posts like this get never seen because again, only a minority has the steam issue which is CAUSED BY STEAM not SE ... but ohwell~.
for example; the launcher hates the steam overlay ... DEACTIVATE IT!! xD. (like literarly every game launcher does not like said overlay)
i wonder when we will have a topic where someone realizes "steam is the issue" and then actually blames valve first instead of square enix XD.

Anyway, we're having issues and we're going to talk about it. that's how discussions work, that's how finding solutions work. A lot of suggestions are not working, no wonder we're loud? That's how this all works. But we don't get any answers from either stream or square? :) And you wanna come in here acting like you're better for some reason? idk why? what's the point? Take your useless post and attitude somewhere else haha ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥~. or offer help without your crummy high horse present. anyway dont reply lol i wasted enough time on you
