FINAL FANTASY XIV Online

barely any voice acting so far in dawntrail????
i'm about 10 hours in and just finished the first dungeon, and i can count the amount of times a cutscene has had voice acting on two hands. is this intended? is my game bugged? why is there so little voice acting?

previous expansions and even the base game has always had voice acting in the more dynamic cutscenes, and the lack of it has been extremely jarring and bizarre. are they cutting costs after the graphics update or something?

Only major cutscenes are voiced. It's been this way since A Realm Reborn.

There is plenty of voice acting. I do not understand what people are talking about.
Which one is it because there are now 3 different opinions and there is only one fact.

tbh all of the msq should be voice acted with how much money yoshi pulls in from subs.
I mean, is it actually that bad? XIV has never really had much voice acting. I haven't tried the expansion yet though.

100 percent. I don't understand how just about every game nowadays can afford to voice act their games, even side quests, but FFXIV can't have a fully voiced MSQ. The game must make thousands on fantasia sales alone every month. It's shameful.

Well... When certain well known characters appear for the first time in the expansion (just before first dungeon, kinda big reveal style) with relatively nicely directed cutscene are not voiced... Just to be voiced in the next imo less significant cutscene. Then yeah. Its a bit bad.

i'm aware of this, but that's not what i'm talking about. the majority of dynamic cutscenes (not the simple cutscenes where they just stand around and talk) are voiced and have been since ARR. dawntrail has a noticeable lack of voice acting compared to the beginnings of other expansions even in dynamic cutscenes that are very obviously plot and character important. it's jarring

exactly this. this is exactly why i thought to make this post in the first place. not to mention the cutscene right after you finish the dungeon is less than a minute long and is voiced, but then the follow-up cutscene immediately after is way longer, is also dynamic, and has no voice acting even though it's very obviously much more story and character significant.

I agree. In my opinion, the entire MSQ + Main raids & trials + major quest lines all should be fully voice-acted.

i don't mind if the "stand around and talk" cutscenes that don't have animation direction in them aren't voice acted, but the dynamic cutscenes absolutely need to be voice acted. same with the 8-man raids, since those tend to be plot/lore important. there's seriously no reason for them not to be with how much money this money rakes in.

That is a lie, a LOT of the cutscens in ShB/EW were voiced even ones I didn't expect to be. There is VERY LITTLE if ANY voice acting in DT.

you don't need to pay text on a screen :) its cheaper japan has had this figured out for a long time

reading in jrpgs is just a part of the games.

you're using "jrpgs tend to not have voice acting" as an excuse for a multi billion dollar corporation being stingy with their money because they didn't want to spend a minuscule amount of money that they're making off of this game alone to pay for the usual standard amount of voice acting that has been present in this game up to this point.

i've been playing jrpgs since i was in kindergarten, i know "reading in jrpgs is just a part of the games". i don't know how many jrpgs you've played in the last decade or two, but an overwhelming amount of them are almost if not entirely voice acted. i've also been playing final fantasy xiv since 2015. this game has always had tons of voice acting in it.

there is nothing inherently wrong with a game not being voice acted, i actually tend to prefer no voice acting over voice acting. that's not the point here. however, there is a serious issue when a game that has always had tons of voice acting in it suddenly releases a new expansion, and that expansion has maybe 1/4th the amount of voice acting that every other expansion has had up to this point. this is simply a fact

lol you complain about how they cheap out on voice acting for over a decade on a single project. one day you explain to someone one why it will never change. outcome get called out for excusing a multi billion dollar company :AOEKnight:
also i didn't buy this expansion because of these minor personal issues i have with the game stacking over time. but that's just me
