even though i LOVE that we get a graphical upgrade, its abit.. underwhelming

for a 10 year game that JUST got the new update im abit underwhelmed, sure it kept the same look but lets look at world of warcraft, i feel like they keep updating the graphics and it just looks better every expansion, there is clear visual upgrades, would LOVE if the graphics would get an actual bigger impact , it KINDA looks like a reshade being thrown in, :) but hey i take it over nothing, and the game is amazing NO matter what!

World of Warcraft visually is far inferior to pretty much every modern MMO, so it's easier for them to make significant improvements and still keep the specs low.

WoW, is... well WoW...

they actually explained it a while ago, that they wanted to enhance the visuals of ff 14 long ago, actually back when they said Shadowbringer was going to be their last expansion, and here we are now....

The problem with enhancing the visuals to an insane limit, is they'd need to use an entirely new engine, and build it (from what i understand) ground up, again, ever since 1.0.

however, doing that, drops your playerbase by a lot, as not a whole lot of people can afford 4K (dollars) PC's, not a jab at anyone, but it's what has kept WOW, and FF 14 relevant, people can afford it.

While someone like me who is a 1.0 player would want more graphical/visual enhancements, it doesn't matter to me, as long as the game is good, in which FF 14 has done a hell of a job doing. They went from FLOP to FAME, from beginning, and hopefully never the end soon.

Visuals don't make a game, look at many indie companies like Valhiem, etc, etc. Pixel projects...

If you're game is good... People will come. And FF 14 flopped hard, and made a huge comeback, rivaling WoW, and some (myself included) Surpasses the Giant that is "WoW"

I don't really think they're underwhelming... If you look at some of those side-by-side images of zones/dungeons they showed off a while ago, it's decent... And on the patch notes you can look at the improved textures as well. I think the benchmark it's hard to appreciate the improvements because a lot of movement is happening, but I have a feeling once you settle in at a familiar locale it'll feel different and improved... I know my character looks a lot better for sure.

i meaan, im not expecting black desert online or ff 16 graphics, and MOST people do have a graphics card that can run a game that has wow graphics to max,

i was kinda just hoping for mabye abit more sharpness , and details on faces, again it looks abit like a reshade if your tweaking it correctly, :) and im still happy with having this over nothing, i guess its just 2024 and i was hoping for abit more, i dont believe people is still running with a square thick old monitor and a 760 graphics card anymore, so no reason not to bump up due to the being afraid that people cannot run it XD

Yeah there's a benchmark tool you can go into the character editor and mess with. There's definitely a lot more going on than a simple reshading that's for sure. My character's face structure has been altered a decent bit, looks a lot more natural. Plus, on the patch notes they showed off some updated textures and they are significantly nicer.

i do agree that world of warcrafts graphics today is absolutly insane compared to vanilla, very high quality compared to back then

How so? WoW started off looking like a PS1 game and now it's basically late era PS3 quality visuals. Sure WoW has made a more significant leap than FFXIV, but that's mainly because it's floor was so much lower than FFXIVs.

Even before the upgrade FFXIV was a much better looking game than modern day WoW. WoW is just more cartoony, so the lack of visual quality isn't as jarring as it would've been otherwise.

the textures and the actual animations are crisp and sharp, :) its the same style as warcraft 3 but its miles ahead compared to what was blocky textures and jagged wierd looking models

Yea, that's the idea. FFXIV's graphics were never even close to as bad as Warcraft 3 or Vanilla WoW, so modernizing FFXIV graphics isn't going to be as notable an improvement.
