Registration Key Issue
So, I bought this game with DLC on Steam, haven't played it in a few years, figured i'd jump back into it and play the new stuff, oh I cant, because my registration key is already registered to this steam account, the only steam account I've ever had. So now what am I suppose to do?

If you bought just the expansion that is newest, meaning endwalker, it isn't going to work...you have to have the complete collection. I'm running into a similar problem...I had up into stormblood, but not shadowbringers and bought endwalker yet won't take the key either. Hope this helps even though it will probably disappoint.

It is a Trial; NOT free to play game.
You still need to buy the game itself before you can use DLC for it. You can buy the starter edition(base game) or complete edition (Base game + Shadowbringers + Endwalker).
Buying just Endwalker does not include base game.
If you bought Dawntrail the "includes all previous expansions" part DOES NOT APPLY UNTIL AFTER DAWNTRAIL RELEASES.
Pre-ordering Dawntrail will not give you anything but a pre-order bonus code right now.

If you did already own the base game & DLC though steam have you redeemed the steam CD keys on Mogstation yet?

you didn't have Base game; Base game isn't free; just has a free trial

if you played the free trial, you'll need to buy the base game and the latest expansion.
If you only bought the base game, you'll have access up to stormblood.
if you only bought the latest expansion, you'll need the base game

What's the issue here? Just pay for the sub on MogStation, download the game, login and play.

Or do you want to use your key on multiple accounts? What games allow this?

Not enough context.

Cannot buy the game more than once, if you buy it again, you get the same CD key.
The only way around this is if you previously bought the Starter Edition, formally known as A Realm Reborn. Then you could buy the Complete Edition, this will give you a second, different CD key.
However, this only works if you make a brand new Square Enix account and then link that new account to your Steam.

If you bought the Starter Edition again, you failed to read the warning, the key is useless as its registered already to an old Square Enix account, as you've previously played the game.

Did you link a SE account to your Steam?

If you want to resolve the issue you have, explain it in detail what you have done from original purchase to re-buying it.

Note that, you can not register Steam bought CD keys until you have linked both your SE account and Steam.

You don't need to register the game a second time. You just use your normal log in info (assuming you've subbed). When it asks you for a cd key you click the button that says "I already have an account" or whatever.

I didnt buy it more than once, I updated, went to launch it from steam, a pop up with the starter edition keys and the shadowbringer keys ive had for years now popped up saying I may need these, i closed it after copying them just in case, launcher comes up and i put in my info to log in and it immediately brings up the CD Key screen which I cannot go beyond.

have you tried editing the file in my documents?

C:\Users\YOUR ID\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn

Open ffxiv_boot.cfg with notepad or any text editor and change the line

StartupCompleted 0
to
StartupCompleted 1

Save it and try open the game again

AND MAKE SURE you dont have google drive/Onedrive or ANY cloud back up app managing that folder
