In groups I tend to completely ignore chat; since it's a tiny box at the bottom left corner of my screen it's easy to forget it even exists. It's fine most of the time, but occasionally something will happen like the Healer will AFK and I'll miss it.
Honestly, the chat bubble doesn't even have to contain the chat text. Just a little bubble with a ... to inform me that one of you little minions is saying something, so I know to glance at chat to see what.
Those are always optional. For example in ESO (Elder scrolls online), by default it's off. If you go to interface settings you can turn Chat Bubbles on and guess what, it has a bunch of lesser options that you can turn off/on regarding the chat, so it's customizible. You can see only local chat if you so desire etc.
You have never played Phantasy Star Online and it shows.
Why are some people against this so much lol, it's an optional thing, most mmorpgs have it because it's good.
Because we don't need chat bubbles to hover over characters when there are a thousand things already going on the screen.
People already struggle enough as it is with game mechanics in random party finders without chat bubbles obstructing their view.
look down the pic. That's how it'd go like. lol
Did you even read this thread?
First of all, just because other devs do one thing, does not guarantee that the devs from XIV would. You are assuming things. Nothing else.
Secondly, there are absolutely people who would use it and cause issues no matter if you or I would use it. There ARE people who would use it and then die like geniuses because of chat bubbles popping up everywhere on their screen.
This would be a complete nuisance either way. This isn't ESO. It ain't playing like ESO.
This is FFXIV, with a heavy emphasis on visual field mechanics that need to be followed.
And seriously. If you cannot follow the damn chat, it really sounds like a you issue. I have never seen anyone complain about not being able to read the chat. If nothing else, people woudl rather hide the entire thing instead of having it, so I really don't see why chat bubbles would ever be a thing if the devs cannot even be assed to let us hide the whole chat box.
so I don't think it'll be coming back, along with a large set of things that was good in 1.0
