I would support anti-cheat programs. People who aren't doing anything wrong have nothing to fear.

There's nothing wrong with playing games on Linux/Steam Deck but a lot of the time anti cheats disagree.

By the way where did you get your source that a majority of players use mods? I'm interested to see this information you have, being a data scientist myself. :lunar2019piginablanket:

I never said that.

Depends on the anti-cheat. Like I said, Kernel level anti-cheat is one that might bug a lot of people and turn them away. I don't personally care to a degree, but I can understand why people don't like it. All it takes is some kind of vulnerability and you're dealing with someone who can do whatever they want with your computer. You're completely reliant on the company to be secure.

Take Vanguard for example. It runs all the time unless you close it yourself and is required for Valorant (maybe league eventually). Not only does it barely stop cheaters in Valorant, but the source code along with a bunch of Riot's data has been stolen by a hacker and leaked. Would you really trust having Vanguard on your computer?

Imo, its not worth it for what is possibly a small part of the population and it wouldn't even stop cheaters/bots (only slow or delay them down).

its very.. very easy to tell if someone uses radar to preposition/move before a mechanic is even cast. Its not rocket science, but it is something you learn over time to watch.

Yea, the Scions in Trust do this in every fight.
I don't support banning plugins either.

What I do support is if those certain plugins that are 'known for cheating' were found being used the servers should just automatically close their game when detected running. This would be a QoL upgrade for PVPers and a continual one for those whom like to RP/ERP.

when the anti-cheat really comes can linux players not longer play FF14. they would need to make extra a virtual windows machine to play FF14.
the steam deck itself would not longer be able to start FF14 either because most (if not all) steam deck users use 3rd party launchers to start FF14 on the steam deck. there are really really less peoples which go through the steps to start the FF14 launcher on steam deck when you can just download the tools for it to make it easier and the tool does everything for you.

So the entire 2 people in this thread will unsub and cause a multi billion yen corporation substantial economic damage because you won't be able to use chat bubbles in Dawntrail, got it. See you all in a few months. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Those platforms are not officially supported anyway. So you play at your own risk.

You do realize linux and steam deck are not officially supported right?

Normally not no but considering they went through the effort to release a hotfix patch over an issue making the game unplayable for Deck users[eu.finalfantasyxiv.com] I'd say there is some level of interest in keeping the game at least playable.

You know it's funny how people continue to ignore Yoshida san then take his words lightly like when he wrote they were receiving reports of malicious 3rd party tools (which people erroneously disregarded as him lying, don't make me link the posts you all made months ago) and there was a whole ordeal about a mod developer distributing malware to the FFXIV community that automatically did things without user consent which is typical of malware.

And now we're going to see the whole house of cards fall when people fail to take his 'countermeasures' statement seriously. Yoshida offered you a chance and you continued to betray his trust. It's countermeasures time soon. Countermeasures o' clock. The Countermeasuring. :lunar2019piginablanket:

We'll see once Dawntrail releases and nobody enjoys their mods for the first month without realizing they're gone forever. The chips fall. :cuphead:

1 million+ players will not stop using mods
What is your source for this? I've been asking for some time now but every time you and other people fail to substantiate these claims. And why do you assume the FFXIV devs act in a manner which supports people who potentially harm the game/other players (cheaters) and other illicit activity which breaches the ToS? You not being able to use chat bubbles when Dawntrail releases while Yoshida implements their countermeasures is just a healthy and necessary part of the game growing. Why are you against progress? :lunar2019piginablanket:

Deleting posts Causality? Not a good look bud.

What is your response about the numerous quality of life things brought in because SQE ripped it from plugins? Convenient that you dodge questions that you don’t have answers to like you claim everyone else does.

Oprindeligt skrevet af MOSLEY:
You know all those nice QoL improvements we got during Endwalker?

- Timers on party list buffs
- Larger cooldown timer text
- Additional waymark preset slots
- Role coloured player names and job icons
- etc

These happened because the devs looked at popular plugins and built their functionality into the game. The overwhelming majority of plugins aren't harmful, they're driving the game forward in a positive direction.

No one wants cheats. Do I laugh at the various UWU groups that advertise they cheat with auto markers? Absolutely. Do I think it’s disgusting that people need to use radar to know what un-telegraphed mechanic is being cast where ahead of time, absolutely.

Anti cheat isn’t a solution, just look at helldivers. The Korean freemium anti-cheat doesn’t do jack diddly to stop cheaters.

Unfortunately, SQE can’t do anything to fix it. What they can do is become more aware of what is out there. Can they do takedowns on open source free tools, eh, probably not. But you would think after all this time if they could find a way to disable it they would.

Also, kindly site your source about dawntrail being the end all be all for plugins.

You always shout, plug-ins bad mods bad, blah blah blah, add anti cheat reeee, and yet, what’s the point. If you really cared you would find out the cheat tools and report them to SQE.

But here is the funniest irony.. plug-ins have become so widely accepted, we the community have become what we were so against with plug-in dependent wow. Do I personally care, no, not really. I tried wow, and I didn’t stop because of the plug-in dependency, I stopped because it made 0 sense and I wanted to play canonically which, apparently is impossible. Sure it forces you into endgame quick, that’s.. okay.. but I have no way to experience 20 years of story that I have no knowledge about.

If sqe even remotely blocks the tools to do such things that are desperately In need updating, they better damn well update their game.

Ever wondered how stupid it is to not have a craft x amount feature? Ever wondered how stupid it is to not be able to teleport to the nearest aetheryte for a gathering node from the gathering book? Ever wondered how stupid it is to not have an in game UI tracking hidden nodes in one place like a shopping list? Ever wondered how stupid it is to not be able to have a better UI, buff/debuff, timer visibility? Ever wondered why the world travel system doesn’t have a simplified version? Ever wondered why you can’t hide the stupid yellow quests you’re never going to do? Ever wondered why the game doesn’t tell you if someone is long casting rez on a target and its duration? Ever wondered why the housing placeable system is so terrible? Ever wondered why you can’t make custom poses and are locked to emotes?

Hmm, if only there were tools for that and much more. So much of it is crap a billion dollar company can’t, won’t or refuses to implement despite it being better for the health of the game.

As an active crafter, I certainly love pressing my 2 macro buttons 800 times for a bulk crafting session.. it’s soooooo much fun.

Don't worry I'll be happy to post them again if it's needed to advance the discussion. I just did it out of curiosity for specific reasons which may or may not be readily apparent. Also since when were you under the impression I care about looks? I was not aware we were in a beauty pageant (but I'd win that anyway too).

I'm anti cheater and against things that can potentially harm the game or other players like that one incident of a mod developer spreading malware (disregarding all the video evidence I have ready of people hacking in pvp). Yoshida san and my beliefs align which is why SE are implementing these countermeasures, it's for the health of the game. Now if people can't use their 'quality of life' as a result of collateral damage then they have the option and freedom to unsub while voicing their valued opinions to SE.

The countermeasures will come.
The plogons will be undone. :cuphead:

They bring a lot of awareness to the devs as well. Most of the QoL updates this game has gotten were once popular mods.
