No, there are/were some severe DDOS attacks over the last few days.
I created my account ~10 days ago and the first 5 days I didn't get disconnected once (and I have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ internet).
So no, it will get better once the fix it or the DDOS attacks stop.
I'm not an expert but looking at how popular this game is and how professional it is run otherwise I'd say that the protections need either be updated or the people behind the DDOS attacks are very clever and sneaky indeed.
There's nothing left but wait and see how things develope.
From one newb to another tho: This game is worth it.
I'm certain that the servers have DDOS protections like any other live service game but the issue might be the sheer volume of bad requests being sent to the servers
Also, LoL did experience multiple server crashes as well. right after FFXIV was being ddos'd
And yeah, companies like SE would be stupid to give into demands like this cause this would mean that the DDOS would happen again and again as they could be leveraged in the future.
Edit: I've heard that SE is usually pretty generous in those cases, adding gametime for almost everyone (even starter pack players) after these kind of events which is a far better option than giving into demands by DDOSers (aka compensate players instead).
eventually they will get enough moles squashed that we won't notice any more
when you think about this, realize that not only is a ton of weight being put on the servers, the pipes that carry that weight are full of it as well, so even if the servers themselves are relieved of the burden by their countermeasures, the pipes are still full of the garbage trying to get there, and they're the same pipes that your (not garbage) stuff is trying to use -- kinda like sharing a septic system with somebody who keeps flushing baby wipes
cleaning the pipes is a cooperative effort, even after the bathroom is clean. that it's taking longer than this sort of thing used to is just a sign of the continual progression of technology, good AND bad
Me too. This attack was over rather quickly, no?!
I'm sure they have mitigations in place, but its nearly impossible to completely prevent a DDOS attack.
