what exactly do you WANT to do?
Look for quests you haven't done, blue quest ones, in order to unlock more content. Loads of people don't have all the alliance raids unlocked let alone all the dungeons.
Grind for glamour to make your character look great.
Play in rp groups if that is your thing.
You can do a lot of other things and different quests to keep you playing but honestly the nice thing about ff14 is not needing to play every week. You can just take a break till the expansion comes out.
Do savage.
At least in ffxiv if you follow the msq you will be guided to relevant content for you as you push up your ilvl. But I do agree if you just hit max level there will be a bunch of the blue + quests that indicate they unlock new side content and that would take reading or googling them to figure out what to do but its really no different than wow in that regard.
You will mostly likely to find a group in the discord tho
If you don't know, then just take a break, especially since dawntrail is only a little over a month away. You're not really going to be able to get into a raid group right now anyways since raiders have, for the most part, are not raiding anymore since the expansion is so close.
Generally speaking though, as the other poster said, end game is whatever you wanna focus on, whether that be crafting, raiding, hunts, treasure maps, beast tribes etc... You can be as casual or as hardcore as you want. This game doesn't really pressure you to stay subscribed to "keep up" with players and content.
Didn't help they added yet even more to the bloated Challenge content (extreme) (savage) with the critereon dungeons.
I used to enjoy the challenge content but the bloat burnt me out.
as for fishing, gathering, crafting all not in a good place for post game. It's there, but being there isn't enough when it's not fun. for alot of people it's "just macro it" and can you blame them for recommending "just macro it" not really when it's not well designed post game goals worth bothering with.
you know crafting is in a bad place when it's best is during a brand new expansion crafting all the new gear, and a patch days week one. to craft usually furniture.
many people are Hyped for dawntrail but i'm more curious.
Will they try. or will dawntrail show their true colours. (viper for a job name. Really? Was G.I Joe inspiration?, seems lazy and lack of foresight. As much as I hate ff13 for being a confused piece of crap of a game it had Ravager right F***ing there as an option. i'm sure a few paradigm options could've worked too.)
When exactly does WoW tell you that you're supposed to chase gear score and mounts?
It doesn't. You hit level cap and then you just sit there, knowing nothing.
What do you mean there is no endgame?
- Patch releases
- Craft or buy and meld crafted gear
- Raid savage and buy time-gated tome gear until you're BiS
- Next patch releases
- Take your BiS to criterion and ultimate
- Repeat
There is an incredibly well defined endgame. You just don't engage with it.
