What gear should I buy?

At lvl 50, 60, 70 I see blue gear on market. Some cheap, some expensive. Some even heart next to it. But then you see gear one lvl or same lvl 51, 61, 71 out stat that blue gear. In 70s case I see 285 a basic pair and 280 blue, yet blue far more expensive.

What am I missing, what should I buy. Guess buy cheap til 90, so why do people want lots for some blue gear? Dysynth it?

If you're trying to get good gear, you should look at the poetics tomestones equipment for level 50, 60, 70, and 80. You don't need to get anything from the market since you can get stronger gear so soon after.

It will only be in the newest expansion that market gear really matters for getting higher stats.

As for why people charge so much gil for it, I dunno. It's probably for the effort required. Maybe they get buyers that want the fashion.

Poetics gear is indeed what you want for 50, 60 70 and 80.

At 50, they are located near the aetherytes of the 3 main cities (Ul' dah, Limsa, Gridania).
At 60, The NPC is located in the middle building in Idyllshire.
At 70, The NPC is located straight north of the Rhalgr's Reach aetheryte.
At 80, The NPC is located near the Aetheryte of Eulmore.

At level 90, assuming getting the highest ilvl gear matters to you, you'll want a combination of the latest tomestone gear and savage gear. Minmaxing gear doesn't really matter unless you are looking to get competitive on fflogs or you want to clear Ultimate fights.

Also, the current relic weapon, which is tied to the hildibrand sidequest, is the current best weapon in the game and it is really easy to get.

It's both, for convenience. Mor Dhona is a hub of vendors, but the cities get an extra vendor so you can pick up some gear easily. Just keep in mind you need to complete that chapter of the MSQ before they show up.

some people buy this gear from MB for Glamour or to complete a quest. don't buy this gear unless you want to.

Never ever buy gear off the market board. People tend to sell gear at a super high mark-up. If you need gear, just buy poetics gear and run your daily dungeon/raid roulettes for more poetics. Eureka also gives a decent amount of poetics as well if you want to step foot in there.

Never ever buy gear off the market board. People tend to sell gear at a super high mark-up. If you need gear, just buy poetics gear and run your daily dungeon/raid roulettes for more poetics. Eureka also gives a decent amount of poetics as well if you want to step foot in there.

I wouldn't say never. week 1 prog for a new raid tier usually requires the new crafted set pentamelded. But yeah, that's about it, other than glam.

Blue gear on the market board is an unique case of craftable replica gear based on the level 50 normal raids- after level 60 blue gear this isn't really a thing anymore.
Note though that color of gear isn't necessarily an indicator of if gear is good or not, though level 70 onward higher end crafted gear is marked green.

If you're looking for gear then it's usually best to look at the best things you can get for your tomes, or whatever highest item level you can find since item level is the main indicator of 'good'.
Note that crafted gear (which is most of the non-glamour gear you can find on the market board) is available in normal and high guality- don't buy normal quality versions of these items.

poetics are the best gear you can get for that level the next like 5 levels into the next expansion, def worth it.
