Dawntrail size?
Any idea how big the Dawntrail expansion is going to be in GB?
I got about 39 gb free on my FFXIV drive can probably shave off a couple more at best but I wonder...is that enough?

For windows currently the system specs recommend 80GB for "up to endwalker" and 140GB for Dawntrail.

I can't see the expansion being half the size of the game with all previous expansions installed. 60 GB for a single expansion?
I don't think so but if that is all we have to go on it seems unrealistic.

... when you re-watch the presentation where they show the new requierements is it correct what mint says. means, you can find it as unrealistic as you want but thats how it is.

Dawntrail brings a graphical upgrade.

Yeah, with the graphics update tons of old textures are getting replaced with new high resolution assets, so that's going to add to the size of Dawntrail. Though that's going to bump up the install size for everyone, not just DT owners.
I would recommend to get an alternative storage disk tbh.
You have to think about the upcoming patches (won't take long till 7.1 appears with it's first raid tier, ...) which adds some more GBs because of the new content plus BGM, models (NPCs, Mounts & Minions, Gear, Furniture...), etc.

I would imagine the space requirement will possibly go up in time as they do the second and third upgrades to the other expansions.

Or maybe the 140 GB requirement takes this into account.

Oh man the only HD I have that is really fat is my 1 tb external drive but I am sure the game would load slow on that.
I certainly dont have 60 gb of space. :omg_desolate:

It isn't just the expansion. It's a visual upgrade for pretty much everything in the game. A lot of assets are being replaced with new higher fidelity versions. It all adds up.

As Mint and Weiss mentioned.
FFXIV is 'upgrading' their environs, meaning, the game environment, as well as character models and the like. Whether we like them or not. Additionally - the 'DL' size is gonna be massive. Why? Because 'pretty' requires MB's and GB'S in most cases. Why? Because to render that much graphics, and that much yakking, require a TON of compiling...

I hope you ... no, you probably don't.
Look. UPGRADING FFXIV to their new texture maps is a LOT of data.
It also means A LOT of supporting data. As I mentioned earlier.

So, lets just move forward.

Ok so I downloaded a program called "Disc savvy" and found a bunch of crap I didn't need hidden away here and there such as things like rockstar game launcher, ubisoft game launcher, and I moved a couple of my bigger games to a different hard drive which is surprisingly easy to do on steam. I somehow had some weird hidden away folder that has like 1 GB worth of fallout 4 saves. I dunno games put your files in weird places and don't uninstall everything when you remove them.
I now have 60.3 GB free and can shrink that further if needed.
My chances of playing Dawntrail have increased. :D

Can also try something called WinDirStat which will break down what's taking up room, down to individual files and folders. Not sure if that app does the same thing or not, only familiar with this one, but it's free.

But yeah, new drives are fairly cheap.. unfortunately, the need for multiple terabytes (well, if you love to game) is approaching rapidly.

i recomment you to download the dawntrail benchmark and test it on your HDD.
for example: i have a seagate barracuda HDD and my loading times are between 10~15seconds, the benchmark shown an overall of 12.63 seconds loading time. i mean, the HDD which i have is the fastest HDD you can get as of now and is fairly expensive but, an SSD is for dawntrail only "recommended" and i seen from peoples which used an SSD on the benchmark having 5~7 seconds loading time. so ... it isnt really a difference. so, i assume if you have a fairly new HDD and not a 10 year old HDD will you have maybe 15~20seconds loading time, maybe 30 seconds on first load + depends how fast your PC overall is, i got a score of nearly nearly 15k with my AMD ryzen 5 2600x and nvidia rtx 2060 super. so, if you have a higher spec then i have+ a fast HDD can ya just putt it into your HDD.

if not need you to probably buy a new SSD x3.
or a seagate baracuda ... tho you get a new SSD cheaper then a baracuda xD.
