Expansion Question

Do I need to buy Dawntrail to unlock Heavensward? I am done with the MSQ and ready to proceed but I only have the standard edition of the game. Dawntrail and Endwalker are both $40 so I figured I should just buy Dawntrail?

Endwalker will get you everything (except Dawntrail) RIGHT NOW. if you buy Dawntrail i believe you have to WAIT for Dawntrail to release before you get the previous expansions.

Buy Endwalker- Play expansions RIGHT NOW
Buy Dawntail- Wait a month

The standard edition comes with Heavensward and Stormblood.

Endwalker comes with Shadowbringers.

Dawntrail is on it's own.

I would say don't buy anything else until you get towards the end of Stormblood. At that point Dawntrail should be out and then Endwalker and Dawntrail should be folded into one purchase.

Unless you want the exp earring. I am unsure if you can preorder Dawntrail for the earring without also buying Endwalker beforehand.

Heavensward is part of the base game, and free trial, you don't need to buy anything for it, Stormblood too.

Currently Shadowbringers is the cutoff point where you need to buy an expansion to continue.

Standard Edition has A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood, so you dont really need to buy anything.

Endwalker dlc is pointless to buy as it will be rolled into Dawntrail DLC in a month.

If you preorder Dawntrail, you will get the exp earrings as a pre-order bonus, and then next month when you register your code, you will have Shadowbringers, Endwalker and Dawntrail, for when you get to it.

Which is it? Done with MSQ (stormblood) or done going to Heavensward (done with ARR)? As for where you are right now, you are either end of stormblood (by way of being done with MSQ) or end of ARR (since you mentioned heavensward). If Stormblood, you can pre-order, but you wont be able to advance until next month. If ARR, you can just advance into Heavensward, while either pre-ordering or waiting until you finish Stormblood.
