What the F*ck? Forced glam of angel wings and a white dress? Scholar is literally just alt white mage now?

Am I missing something or is this super out of left field and kinda sh*tty?

Edit: Also is seems none of Scholars flaw have been addressed in any way, same kit with two or three new flashy buttons, SE really hates us scholar mains...

At this point the only healer that doesn't lean on angelic theming is Astrologian. Which can't decide if it wants to be a time mage or not.

If anything Scholar should be the dark and edgy healer, it's literally a battlefield tactician. Sun Tzu up in here!

Healing has always been heavily associated with Angelic themes. Also, as a SCH you're running around with a fairy side-kick; so it's not really an aesthetic stretch to throw on some angel wings and a white dress.

I do understand the frustration with the forced aesthetic shift, even if I'm not personally mad about it. Reaper had the edgelord mode as part of its identity on its release, where as Scholar is getting it grafted on so late in life...

I mean I dig Seraph, because "SCH is healer summoner" is fine by me. But WHM has had the light-aspected angelic-magical-girl vibe for years at this point. Kinda hope they reneg on the costume switch (such as having a toggle that turns off the visual, but... [gestures at egi-glamour].)

Summoner's the only job I am firmly disappointed by. We could've had Shiva. Or Fenrir. Or Alexander. (Or Bahamut-> Leviathan, Ramuh & Shiva/Fenrir -> Phoenix -> standard trio, to have a full set.) Instead, we get digimon!Bahamut, which isn't even an upgrade to demi-bahamut, but is instead functionally a nerf to Phoenix, because now you only get 1 phoenix per 4 minutes, instead of 2.

I agree the actual aesthetic is a bit weird. The weird angel wings that -at least as far as the little clip we've seen thus far - has less animation than the freakin' fashion accessory wings, is a bit off putting and pretty low-tier quality.

But the idea of it I'm fine with. I don't understand the people complaining that it doesn't fit Scholar's aesthetic. Yes, Scholar's are tacticians, but apparently we've all forgotten that Lily exists? There is room for both tactician/militant themes as well as natural/Fae inspired themes - both are equally important to the identity of Scholar.

I've seen quite a number of people saying they'd have been fine if it had been fairy wings. Lot of them wanted it to be Feo Ul-themed. (Usually followed by a chorus of people wanting Feo Ul as fairy glam.)

Obviously I can't speak to everyone's thoughts, but general chatter I've seen suggests the primary annoyance is at the robe (people can get very attached to their glam, after all), not the wings.

With "we already have WHM for that aesthetic" in a close second. In a similar vein to why the majority of healer gear consists of white robes.

You should've noticed that they are making SCH a WHM with a pet the day they removed Leeches in favor of Esuna.

I deeply dislike this angel cosplay too as SCH were supposed to be the Nym Marines military force, not some discount bin WHM fairy larper.

Historically, SCH has always been more focused around black magic than white magic. It's supposed to be more like a healing BLM than a WHM. In XIV specifically, it's obviously more closely tied to SMN. The angelic theme doesn't fit.

You can use Art of War because of the potency per GCD advantages in certain environments.

After spending an unhealthy amount of time mulling over both Scholar and the overall game and rewriting this comment at least ten times I've come to a conclusion:

I want to preface this by saying I'm a Scholar main, I've been a Scholar main since day one and while I play other classes Scholar is MY class. I play it mostly out of spite at this point and a longing for the "Good old days", but I'm out of spite and out of hope.

Thus I ask this of SE, Just remove Scholar, You've already taken every single interesting thing out of out kit, Murdered our Fairies, And stripped us of our theme twice over, Just end our suffering, Remove Scholar and finally just say those those few of us who remain: "there is no place for you anymore"

The worst part is the it COULD be a good class if they'd give it a bit of love, Give me thirty minutes with the job design team and all four of it's major flaws could be fixed without having to remake it from scratch. But SE clearly just doesn't care and won't do anything but tack on more useless garbage and raise the potency so it seems OK on paper, Hence my wish for them to just let it die in peace instead of being wheeled around on life support.

Speaking as a sage main: Recitation deploy adlo alone makes Scholar great. SCH is mechanically effective (though things like Seraph being unable to tether could use adjusting). It's the theme that it struggles with.

For all the memeing on "scholar just gets a speed buff" in EW, it's still the better raid job.
